Invasion of the tabletop tablets: Are these fiendishly clever hybrids the ultimate family PCs?

You can thank Windows 8 for this bold new experiment: touchscreen all-in-one computers that can move all around the house.

Two computers in one ; Desktop Core i5 processor ; 1TB, 7200 rpm hard drive

Mode switching can be clumsy ; Webcam nonfunctional in Android mode ; No HDMI input on either base or tablet

Asus Transformer AIO (P1801-B037K)

The Asus Transformer AIO (P1801-B037K) is an all-in-one Windows 8 PC where the screen is also an 18-inch Android tablet. You can switch back and forth between Windows and Android, so you can complete your work (or play) in Windows on a tabletop device...

Splashtop lets you use Windows 8 around the house. Can use Android apps. Speedy quad-core processor and discrete graphics. Four USB 3.0 ports. Quick switch between environments

Some lag on tablet when out of dock. Webcam not accessible to Windows when away from dock. Mouse and keyboard have limited range. No HDMI-in. Crashes in either OS can make the system seem unresponsive

In the blockbuster movie Avatar, the head technician character grabs active telemetry data from a desktop workstation and continues to work with it on a networked tablet. This is the essential idea behind the Asus Transformer AIO (P1801-B037K) . You...

Would be fantastic if it worked

Received today and really like the ability to bounce back and forth from Win8 to Android. My only issue is that tablet will not work once undocked, doesn't respond to any gestures. However, when docked works 4.0. Sending unit in and will update once I...

Don't buy ASUS products

I bought an ASUS tablet for my wife. Sat wrapped for several weeks. Would not turn on. Sent back for repair. Took a very long time. Worked for several weeks. Same problem. Contacted them and they said it was out of warranty - even though it was the...

Sreen cracked right out of the box

So I ordered this awesome machine because of course, BB didn't carry it in the store. I was delighted to see it arrived days early which was a plus! I got super excited un-boxing it, I setup the dock, got the wires all in place... everything was ready...

It has windows 8 and Android with the ability to switch seamlessly between the two

It's not durable at all, tablet is very heavy, I wouldn't go very far with it in fear of dropping it

Hands on: Asus Transformer AiO P1801 review

CES 2013 Asus's strangest device at CES is a desktop/tablet hybrid that runs both Windows 8 and Android Jelly Bean.

Two processors run both Windows 8 and Jelly Bean ; Tablet has built-in handle and stand

Tablet is large and unwieldy on its own ; Somewhat impractical

Asus Asus Transformer P1801 review

Asus's Transformer P1801 is an odd beast: part extra-large Android tablet, part Windows 8 all-in-one desktop. When docked, the tablet is an 18.4in IPS display for the PC, but as soon as you lift it from the dock, it becomes a stand-alone tablet with a...
