Dell Dimension C521

Dell's first Athlon-equipped system, the Dimension C521, marks the company's long-awaited passage into the realm of AMD.

Compact form factor. AMD processor. Humongous 320GB hard drive. Desktop components. Single TV tuner. Good USB multimedia keyboard/mouse combo. Quiet, thanks to BTX design and slow-turning fans.

Compact form factor necessitates half-height cards. Slower than Intel Core 2 Duo systems. TV tuner isn't HDTV/ATSC-compatible. Ugly external IR receiver for MCE remote. Short, 90-day security subscription.

Dell Dimension C521

This system marks the end of Dell's Intel-only approach to CPUs with its first-ever use of an AMD processor in a consumer PC. You're only getting an Athlon 64 3800, but it does signal Dell's intention to give the end user more choice
