Dell Inspiron 537s

The latest addition to Dell's Inspiron line is also its smallest. The new 537s ($658 direct, $858 with 20-inch widescreen monitor) is one compact desktop. It's also one of the less expensive models out there to feature a discrete graphics card with...

Compact form factor. Customizable faceplates. No bloatware. HDMI output. 15-month McAfee Security Center subscription

Little internal expansion room. No FireWire or eSATA ports. 3D discrete graphics card is low performing. Graphics card is HD-capable, but no Blu-ray option. 250W power supply limits expansion options

It's always a balancing act for PCs in the sub-$1,000 price range, and Dell's Inspiron 537s is a good example. It features a discrete graphics, but pays for it with a lower-performing CPU.

Dell Inspiron 537s Review and Ratings

The Dell Inspiron 537s is a handsome slimline PC for space-strapped users, but its overall performance doesn't measure up for demanding applications or 3D games.

Good-looking exterior, with eight color choices ; Compact design ; HDMI port

Unexceptional productivity, 3D-gaming performance ; Limited upgrade potential ; No Gigabit Ethernet
