Dell Inspiron 580 Desktop PC

Dell's Inspiron series of laptops and desktop PCs, that target mainly home and SOHO users, are very different from the high-end and gaming rigs. However, if you look at the performance of some of them, they offer very good value for money. A fine...

Dell Inspiron 580s

The Dell Inspiron 580s ($529, as of April 20, 2010) is in many ways a typical budget PC. Its main points of differentiation are a chassis that is slimmer than most in its category and generally strong performance for the price.

Strong general performance ; Slim, attractive case

Lackluster storage capacity ; Poor expansion options

Storage space is lacking, and the case leaves much to be desired, but you can't argue with the performance or the price.

Dell Inspiron 580s

Inside, the system is well laid out, if a little cramped (as is expected). The system has room for one PCI card, two PCIe x1 cards, and a PCIe x16 graphics card. Because of the SFF form factor, these all need to be half-height cards, but the fact that...

Compact and quiet. No bloatware. 15-month subscription to MacAfee Internet Security. Fast core i3 processor. HDMI port. Some expandability

320GB hard drive. Weak 3D performance. No eSATA or FireWire port. Could use wireless connection

The Dell Inspiron 580s a good upgrade for people using 4- or 5-year-old desktop PCs, particularly if they're still using an older Pentium 4 or Athlon 64 processor. It's a compact PC for the person performing everyday light to moderate multimedia tasks.

Dell Inspiron 580s Review

High-end Alienware rigs are nice, but they're not where the Round Rock computer giant makes all of its money.

Attractive ; Solid performance ; Highly expandable

Weirdly tall

Dell isn't the first computer manufacturer to offer an attractive-yet-capable slim form factor desktop, but that certainly doesn't mean their efforts should be discounted. Taking advantage of new processor and graphics technologies from Intel and...

Dell Inspiron 580

This is an ideal home computer if you are looking for basic features.

This home computer has a slim and attractive appearance

This computing device has a poor graphics card for serious gamers

The Dell Inspiron 580 is not the most advanced home computing device on the market today. However, it does offer the features that will fit the needs of many home computer users. Dell designed a high-performance product; it just lacks a few desirable...

Real workhorse for everyday use.

I have purchased 10 or more of this product line, including a number for small businesses on a budget. It is very customizable at Dell Online; important for client price point and desired performance level. I like the unit so much I put 2 in my home:...

Small for factor; customizable online to get exactly what you want; good speed, graphics, runs quiet and not heat issues

Not good for high end gaming. Intended for everyday computing needs of the home and small business. The graphics card and processors offered don't seem intended for higher end use. In the Dell line the XPS line would cater to high end use

An honest review from someone who actually knows technology.

FIRST OF ALL: In response to the other reviewer. Don't believe the person whose telling you to buy a Gateway over a Dell. Gateway hasn't been good for 10+ years.

Worst Computer Experience!

We bought this computer in May 2010. In December, the hard drive failed, they sent us a new hard drive under the warranty. The 2nd hard drive failed after less than 24 hours. After contacting customer service, we were told we needed a new motherboard...

Impresses

It has been the best computer I have had yet. Fastest boot to the desktop I have ever seen. There is no way you can be dissatisfied with 6GB of RAM and a 750 GB hard drive for that kind of money. Good price even better computer

Intel graphics is ok. Im going to upgrade which wont cost much so it really isnt much of a con. Only thing I could think of
