Dell Optiplex 755

We tested Dell's OptiPlex 755 Mini-Tower ($1272 as of 9/12/07) as part of "Green PCs: A First Step," a story on energy-efficient computing. This business desktop is Energy Star 4.0-certified and meets the stringent EPEAT Gold environmental impact...

Expandable ; Energy efficient

Lacks some extras

This easy-to-expand unit makes a solid energy-efficient business PC.

Dell Optiplex 755

If you think of green PCs as feeble machines scrunched into a microscopic form factor, you haven't seen the Dell OptiPlex 755 ($1,183 direct). Despite its sizable mid-tower frame, which offers plenty of room for expansion, the OptiPlex 755 has abundant...

EPEAT Gold and Energy Star 4.0 certifications. Room for expansion. Energy efficient. Several form factors available. Easy-open case. Tool-less expansion. Internal power supply. Data redundancy/backup

800-MHz RAM for $20 more would've been a better choice with the motherboard and the CPU's 800-MHz FSB. Many workers don't need the extra expansion or tower configuration. Only VGA out

This is not the most exciting PC on the market, but like others in this segment it proves that you can have both power and energy efficiency. Think of it as the Toyota Highlander hybrid SUV of green PCs.

Dell Optiplex 755

A competitor for products like the Lenovo ThinkCentre and the Acer Veriton, the Dell Optiplex 755 aims for lower power more than greater performance.I...

Easy release side panel, vPro technology, good performance for an office PC

Not as small as the Lenovo ThinkCentres we've tested, or the Acer Veriton range; no e-SATA or FireWire

We like the trend towards a power saving focus, though there's little we can attribute to this machine that hasn't been used before. Regardless, it's a promising step forward. Performance-wise this machine does well, though the lack of e-SATA and...

worth the money

For what the item cost, I feel like I got pretty good value.

Fairly powerful system with a 64-bit operating system. Memory (system RAM) is adequate to run Win7 and multi-task with several applications open at one time. Probably not powerful enough to be a gaming rig, but more than adequate for heavy business...

As another reviewer commented, the item was not well-packed -- the foam packing blocks shifted and the pc itself plus the mouse and keyboard were basically rattling around loose in the box. Although the inside of the case was pristine (very clean,...

Not bad.

I also put in another hard drive, as the 250 gig drive just wasn't sufficient for me. And I added more ram, I put (2) 2 gig sticks in it. So for the money this actually was a good buy, seeing as I can play WoW on it and do my school work on it. I also...

I was skeptical at first. I needed a PC and had a relatively low budget, so I found this. I play WoW, and initially this machine CANNOT run WoW, as the onboard video card is not good enough to even let you play. So I put in a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT and...

The video card I put in was not a slimline type, so the case is like halfway on, but I don't mind that

Glad I bought it

All in all I'm quite satisfied, it does everything I need for a great price !

Worked fine right out of the box and Windows registered with no problems. I use it for programming and office applications and it's more than fast enough for my needs

The computer has a strange habit of turning itself on in the middle of the night but from what I've been reading that's more of a Windows 7 issue than with the computer itself

Dell OptiPlex755

Excellent buy for the price ( considering the OS with sticker is worth $100 by itself.

For the price excellent robust system; some small quirks at the beginning but they quickly got fixed by the system tools; at first I thought there was a defect in not recognizing an added SATA Hard Drive and DVD ROM, but in the BIOS I turned on SATA 2...

Hard Drive requires replacement

The problem with off lease products is you get used hardware and as far as hard drives go the life may be used up. The price just went up on a supposedly inexpensive computer.

Well built by Dell, good shape, great for home office

Was not well packed. One of the two foam blocks was on one side of the PC instead of on the end. The mouse and keyboard boxes were squished, but seem to have survived. Have a Com 3 driver issue, so I downloaded a diagnostic tool from Dell and...
