Good general and gaming performance ; Bundled 120Hz 22-inch LCD and 3D goggles

Limited internal expansion options

The XPS 8000 is a solid all-around performer with good connectivity and a bundled 120Hz Samsung LCD and nVidia 3D glasses. Just don't count on making upgrades.

Strong performance for its price; impressive power efficiency; better deal than the same configuration on Dell's Web site.

All-black exterior in this retail model looks bland next to the multicolored models available directly from Dell; midtower design would benefit more from a better graphics card than wireless networking.

Dell has also removed all the usual bloatware you find on PCs these days, which frees up hard space and can improve performance. The only nit I can pick is the system only comes with a 30-day subscription for the included Norton Internet Security...

Speedy quad core performance. Large hard drive. No Bloatware. Small items tray with USB ports. eSATA port. HDMI port

Short Internet Security subscription. Graphics card is video rather than gaming oriented. Retail gets the "older model

The Dell XPS 8000 (SX8000-1479UWH) is Dell's multimedia powerhouse desktop. It's a little light in the 3D performance, but it's got Core i5 power you need to get your video and photo projects done quickly. That said, there are other choices.

The Dell Studio XPS 8000 case has been designed so that you can place the PC on the floor and still access its USB ports and memory card slots comfortably. They are easy to access because they are angled slightly upward.
