Dell XPS 700

The Dell XPS 700 is a big, powerful system that has plenty of processing muscle to spare. Flexing Intel's 2.66-GHz Core 2 Duo E6700 processor and 2GB of DDR2-667 RAM, the system earned an impressive score of 153 on our WorldBench 5 benchmark. That puts...

Chassis has robust design Plenty of expansion room

Side panel is hard to remove

At $3985, the system is not cheap. But the speedy Dell XPS 700 has an edge in its smart, quiet design and easy expandability

Dell XPS 700 reviewed and ripped apart

It's not often that you read a review of a computer with a line like "You could kill someone with this thing," but the folks at bit-tech.net got to write that gem in their look at Dell's new gaming-oriented XPS 700, referring to the deadly-looking...

Dell XPS 700

The XPS 700 is massive: It dwarfs the other Core 2 Duo-powered gaming desktops I've got on the bench right now. It features a "forward-leaning" design that, while gimmicky, does set it apart from the others. Dell sent me the red-paneled case, but it's...

Unique styling. Speedy dual-core processor. SLI graphics. Ding dong, the kickstand's dead! New case is quiet. Card retention brackets. Vista-ready. 15-month security software subscription. No esoteric cooling methods mean that the system is serviceable...

Not quite as fast as some of its peers. Locked Core 2 Duo instead of unlocked Core 2 Extreme (in tested configuration). It's really big. Shipping delays and component shortages may affect your order. Media Center, but no remote or TV tuner

Dell's new gaming flagship is as big as a cruise ship. With a Core 2 Duo processor, it has some power, but there are other systems out there that are better performers (though they may be less attractive). It should be on your short list if you're...

Dell XPS 700 Desktop Review

As smaller computer manufacturers focus on their ability to build amazingly powerful gaming machines, Dell has come out with a new powerful desktop capable of competing with them. Dell will always be competitive when is comes to prices, but how will...

It is prettier than most of Dell's other systems, and it can pack quite a punch. If you want a really heavy punch you will have to throw down some extra cash for the upgrades, but the standard $2,000 system is okay by itself. This is something for the...

What's causing Dell XPS 700 shipments to be delayed again, to October

Although Dell originally announced its Pentium D 900 series-based XPS 700 system last May, few - if any - customers who purchased this system ...

As customers began accepting Dell's offer for an upgrade, however, the focus of the company's shipment problems seemed to shift to the Core 2 Duos as well. An explanation offered by Dell digital media manager Lionel Menchaca on the company's blog...

Dell XPS 700

So you want to be dominated, do you? Dirty little puppy. Then short of taping a cat o' nine tails to your DVD slot so that it gently flogs you when it opens and closes, this is definitely the gaming rig for you.

Excellent choice of CPU, Awesome 24-inch panel, Good framerates out of the box

How about an 8800GTX?

A towering colossus of a rig, but it needs more graphical poke to drive that 24-inch panel

Dell XPS 700

Dell's latest XPS desktop looks stupendous and should go like stink. So why is it a disappointment? Read on to find out.

At the rear of the case you’ll find a further six USB ports and another FireWire. There’s only one Ethernet port – more on that later – but there is a serial socket, as well as a PS/2 and keyboard ports. There’s an optical out port present, which seems...
