Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition

The Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition desktop PC will do the trick whether you're looking to edit video, cleanup photos, or enjoy some games, making it a great all-around performer.

Fourth-generation Intel Core i7-4770 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 offer prosumer performance. Sizeable storage

Bland design

Nestled between the gaming-oriented Alienware gaming PCs and the consumer systems of Dell's Inspiron line is the powerful Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition. This mid-tower PC is made to handle high-end graphics and media creation as part of the day to day...

Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition's review: A little less performance for a lot less cash

No one will mistake this machine for boutique builder's product, but we have no complaints about its price/performance ratio.

Powerful 4th-generation Intel Core processor ; 2TB drive with 32GB SSD cache for fast storage ; Midrange video card for modern gaming

Only one PCIe x16 slot (occupied) ; Just a single chassis fan ; All four memory slots are occupied

The Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition is a solid entry-level gaming PC.

Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition review

Sure, Ultrabooks and convertibles are the hot new PC products on the block, but if you want the maximum amount of performance for the least amount of money, you may want to look elsewhere. Do you want a system that can grow with your needs, rather than...

Very fast, 4th-gen CPU ; Dedicated sound card ; Good gaming performance ; Upgradable

More RAM than most will ever use ; SSD cache, rather than a real solid-state drive ; Not as customizable as other desktops

A good selection of components, room for upgrades, and a 4th-gen Intel CPU make Dell’s XPS 8700 a nice family or dorm PC. We just wish it were a bit more configurable.

Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition

The Dell XPS 8700 Special Edition tries to provide you with lots of performance power, some added connectivity features, but it doesn't leave much room for future expansion or a second graphics card. It delivers in the performance category, but it's...

Wi-Fi & Intel WiDi connectivity, Plenty of USB 3.0 ports, Blu-ray drive, Solid performance

Limited internal expansion, Pricier than similar desktops

Swift performance, Smart choices in core components, Addition of Wi-Fi with Intel WiDi

No accommodation for second graphics card, Discrete sound card dropped from options list, Only one PCIe slot available

Our benchmarks show that a step up from mSATA to a primary SSD is in order. Otherwise, we like the inclusion of 802.11n and WiDi, look askance at some wasted space inside the tower, and are pleased with the system's overall performance. If you opt for...

Dell XPS 8700

There is a reason that the Dell XPS 8700 earns a top spot in our top 10 lineup. This multimedia computer boasts great components and performance, plenty of connectivity options and Dell's excellent customer support. We highly recommend this computer...

It has a fast processor and a decent video card

There isn’t much room for expansion

This powerful multimedia computer will give you peak performance for all your multimedia tasks.

Awesome PC

This is a great PC. For what I needed, a few games comparable to LoL, WoW and CS GO, this PC is exactly what I was looking for. I found it on a sale so I am extremely happy with the price I got it for as well, just a little over $700.

Fast with the i7. 1 TB is nice with the 8 Gig DDR3. Very Reliable

Haven't found any yet. Good vibes

Great system for upgrade. Slow WiFi card

Upgraded SSD. Not tested with Games yet.

Really great value system that can be used as "barebone" for upgrades ; Great proc, memory ; Very quiet ; Very speedy even without upgrades (using Photoshop a lot)

just N Wi-Fi card for 2014, it's a shame ; Hard or impossible to upgrade to different HDD size or SSD without losing Windows license and Dell apps (some of them handy)

Pleasant surprise - first Windows 8 desktop/top

I ordered a Logitech touchpad to go with it. But, it really is not necessary at all. It works fine, and I suspect it will be useful when I do more work with Adobe Illustrator and other applicatons where I'll use a stylus. But for regular work - totally...

I have long held back on upgrading to Windows 8. I was pleased at the easy installation. JUST REMEMBER to start it up, the first time, without an Internet connection. That way you will NOT be prompted to create a login with a Windows Microsoft Live ID....
