Gateway DX4831-03

You don't have much room to upgrade the Gateway DX4831-03, but you probably won't need to. Aside from its indifferent gaming performance, this midsize tower desktop PC--the first in Gateway's DX line that we've reviewed since last year's...

Excellent general performance ; Ample hard drive space ; Blu-ray support

Less-than-ideal gaming performance ; Screw-filled chassis slows upgrades ; Boring input devices

As long as gaming isn’t your thing, you'll find much to love in the do-everything-else Gateway DX4831-03 midsize tower desktop.

Gateway DX4831-03 review: Gateway DX4831-03

Gateway DX4831-03

Strong application performance; Blu-ray and graphics card and fast CPU for a fair price; room for modest upgrading.

Marginally disappointing game performance.

The Gateway DX4831-03 compares well with other desktops on the shelf, so well, in fact, there's little practical difference aside from a few variations in its features. Gateway has opted to rely on Blu-ray to set it apart. If that's enough to draw your...

Bang for the buck

The machine has been a trooper while I put it through its paces for a week. Complaints have more to do with silliness of some aspects of Windows 7 (come on, guys, do you REALLY want to head down the Cupertino path?) than the machine itself. After...

I'd set my sights on core i7 when I ran across this machine on newegg. The spec was pretty good for the price, and though people are absolutely right about Gateway's abysmal customer service -- even registering my wife's music PC through gateway was a...

Minor bloatware. Biggest complaint is the total lack of useful documentation. I can even live without OEM OS installs, but there is no info anywhere that would help you figure out how to make a rescue disc ; Audio ports are in the back; if you listen...

No Support

Doesn't come with a WLAN thought I would just add one in the PCI slot - BUT no PCI Slot ... So added an external USB WLAN took 3 hours to find the right driver for Win7 ... got it up and working and then the next day it boots up saying it doesn't...

Huge HD, super fast ... lots of connections

Most of the connections are unnecessary ... there is NO PCI only PCI Express

Fast computer for a great price. I have never had problems with Gateway computers

None so far

Best price/performance value

I had been casually looking for a new system and considering building my own when I came across this Gateway. It's got great specs and I realized I couldn't beat the price building my own so I bought it. It has worked great right out of the box with no...

Great processor/memory/HDD/graphics specs ; Good value for the price ; Running all games at full settings easily

A bit of bloatware, but not as bad as I expected

Still Great

In a perfect world the operating system would have been installed on a 100 GIG SSD with the 1024 GIG drive as a secondary and there would be more standard PCI Express slots but this is not a perfect world. The Gateway DX4831 is a great computer for the...

The computer is still working great, windows 7 is fantastic and the gadget caddy on top is really useful

The multi card slot is a little over done, all I use is the SD, Micro SD and the MS/MS Pro slots the rest of the space could have been used for something like another Sata port

Good machine, too many issues

Although I'd like to say otherwise as I want to like the PC I bought, I don't recommend this to others. If yours works through the first week and you never plan to open it up, it'll probably be fine.

Good feature set for the money. Speedy, nice selection of external ports

1st machine didn't power up - dead on arrival. Fixed an internal power cable. Then the DVD died a few days later. The replacement PC is working better ; But then I went to add a tuner card. Two issues: one, the cover plate for the PCIe slot at the back...

Awsome

All in all I would buy another one if I had the money, the Cons. pail in comparison to the Pros. You will get exactly what Newegg says you will get. Check back in about a month and I will let you know if I still like this machine.

This is an amazing machine for the money, you would be hard pressed to build a better computer for less. The case is very nice, clean lines, every thing where you need it and no giant weird looking company branding. Gateway / Acer has really hit this...

The doors that open to reveal the DVD Super Multi drive are a little flimsy, sorta awkward how they open but not a big deal at all they work just fine. The eject button is a little odd to get use to but it worked good once I did get use to it
