Gateway DX4831-03

You don't have much room to upgrade the Gateway DX4831-03, but you probably won't need to. Aside from its indifferent gaming performance, this midsize tower desktop PC--the first in Gateway's DX line that we've reviewed since last year's...

Excellent general performance ; Ample hard drive space ; Blu-ray support

Less-than-ideal gaming performance ; Screw-filled chassis slows upgrades ; Boring input devices

As long as gaming isn’t your thing, you'll find much to love in the do-everything-else Gateway DX4831-03 midsize tower desktop.

Gateway DX4831-01e

Editors' note: This review is part of our 2010 retail laptop and desktop spring roundup , which covers specific fixed configurations of popular systems found in retail stores.

Clever tower design puts a media card reader on top; quality video playback; virtualized quad-core Intel CPU offers competitive performance for its price; massive 1TB hard drive; plenty of room inside for expansion.

Lacks wireless networking; competition offers more memory

The Gateway DX4831-01e is the midtower version of the Editors' Choice award-winning SX2840-01 and exhibits equally impressive performance scores while offering ample room for expansion. We recommend this system to budget-minded shoppers who are looking...

With excellent performance for its price and a configuration that the competition can't beat, the DX4831-03 is one of the best values in a sub-With excellent performance for its price and a configuration that the competition can,000 PC.

Excellent performance for its price; lots of upgrade potential; convenient front-facing ports

"Best bang for my buck."

I am extremely happy with this purchase. Got for under $500 after tax. Was pretty much set on building a new computer for around $1100-1300 and just happened to find this computer that just had to much in it to for the great price. I thought about the...

Was going to build a PC for around $1100-1300 and found this nice peace of work for under $500 after tax and did everything I needed it to do, so worth the money. HDMI hook up to my 32in HDTV is awesome. Tons of RAM,CPU power, audio, and exp. bays.

Can't complain for the quality/feature ratio. The integrated GPU isn't hard core but it handled HDMI stream to my 32in HDTV. Keyboard looked cheap but actually turned out to be decent w/lots of WIN7 hot keys. No, I can't complain about this computer.

"4831-01 u variation, big bang- small buck. solid build."

As above I have experienced no problems with these units at all. I do a internal connection check before I virgin start any new computer with SATA connections- the will come loose durng shipping from time to time.

Solid build on this unit. have run three 24/7 with no hiccups at all. I3 is a wilnner, unit runs super silent. Very cool running at 85 deg F at idle(75 deg ambient). Very EZ to put in a moderate Graphics card if you need it.

Weak 300 watt power supply. If you upgarde the graphics card(like some of us feel we just have to do) its a must to put in a higher watt power supply. It runs great mut mods will need more power

It handles my work load without breaking a sweat"

I think it was a good deal and am happy with ...

I appreciate the extra usb ports. The speed is very good and I can have ton's of applications running without noticeably bogging it down. I am still using my old dell 20" flat screen monitor but the display is definitely better

The keyboard is flimsy. It flexes when I type and sometimes actually squeaks from the flexing.I have already had my n key get stuck and had to pry it up with a small screw driver to use the n key again. I will have to call gateway about this

"On sale at Frys for $699 makes this a great deal."

If you can get this on sale and add an ATI 57...

Pretty much everything as configured. Blu-ray drive included, great video from the standard dvd drive

No wireless, but no big deal. You'll need a better graphics card if you watch the Blu-ray a lot. Nvidia ok for light gaming and watching dvds but not for HD movies
