Gateway GT5692

The GT5692 is the first PC we've reviewed that comes configured with AMD's triple-core Phenom processor. In this case, it's a 2.1-GHz X8450 model fed by 4GB of PC5300 DDR2 memory and a 500GB, 7200-rpm Western Digital SE16 Caviar Blue hard drive. What...

Low cost, decent performance ; Nice 19-inch display

Lousy gaming performance ; Poor interior cable tie-offs

This triple-core Phenom system is a solid buy for SOHO users on a budget.

Ausome buy from Yiger Direct, refurb, but no sign of such. ”

I had an old 880GHz Dell Dimension, and seemed outdated and just want something faster but didn't want to spend too much for it. I got an Email from Tiger Direct/Comp USA and saw this computer but was skiptical to order because it's refurb. I thought,...

Mostly satisfied

Mostly satisfied

Hi, I am mostly satisfied with my new Gateway GT5692 Desktop PC, HOWEVER... 1.) The lower optical drive switch button had fallen back into the cabinet in the first month. Not to worry... it just wasn't mounted right. I put it back together myself....

Great!

Ordered an Antec EA650 and an MSI 9800GT from Newegg for $200 in total. Should be able to play most if not all current games on my standard screen ratio (1280 x 1024) at medium to high settings. Overall recommended for gaming if your willing to spend...

Great value(I think), fast,Phenom x3 processor, integrated graphics are mostly great,No driver problems(what are mac vista haters talking about. my 6 year old printer installed itself in about 10 seconds. faster than on my XP), mostly upgrade friendly,...

Vista (not the worst, give it time), 1 case fan, weak 300w power supply, integrated graphics are great but only are truly useful on games up to spore's requirements or less

Great Computer

Very fast computer. Vista works flawlessly so far and the 4 GB of RAM are great. Great computer for the money. Installed wireless card and ugraded to 8GB RAM. Both are recognized and working flawlessly as well

Good Purchase!

Bought on August 4th 2008 and has run flawlessly since then. I use it as a general home computer and SETI@home cruncher. I definitely recommend this computer to others - it's a great choice.

Nice sturdy case with plenty of room ; good quality keyboard (with built-in wrist rest) and mouse ; top of the line on-board Radeon HD 3200 video ; fast triple-core processor ; plenty of RAM ; big hard drive

Speakers are typical packaged ones: good mid-range, okay highs, no bass ; on-board video still a weak point for high-end games (Windows Experience Index gave scores of 5.2 for processor, 5.9 for memory, 5.9 for hard drive ... and 4.0 for both graphics...

Very Happy So Far

Vista is taking me awhile to get used to, but I do think it has been an improvement...please don't shoot me for saying that. :-)

Installed Vista 64 bit with no issues, recognized my add on old IDE Disk Drives seamlessly. I was surprised on how well my old software applications installed and runs with no problems

Bad keyboard keys, I have 4 keys that don't work, tried to re-load the keyboard driver, but no joy. My son's Gateway keyboard works fine with this PC. Gateway after a few emails did give in and agreed to ship me a new keyboard...its been two days, so...

A great well-rounded PC; upgrade-friendly

Even Vista has a hard time slowing this machine down. I put the AMD64 version of Ubuntu and Debian linux on this thing, and they run obscenely fast. If using the PC for Linux, use a new or recent distro release as the on-board hardware is very new and...

Comes with 4 GB RAM; triple-core processor will keep you speedy for a long while. The triple-core processor is sort of an "odd duck" as most processors are dual or quad core... but it runs like greased lightning so no complaints here ; You can turn...

I forget if Gateway put a lot of add-in software on the Vista install, but I don't think they did- nothing you can't remove anyway. Oh- the drive bays are tricky to get into if you want to add another DVD drive to it. There, I found something to pick...

Correction!

Saved over a hundred bucks in shipping buying it at (not so) bad buy this time around. Probably the one and only time i'll ever buy a computer there too, but whatever, I actually saved money shopping outside of newegg for once(in 5 years)

Still an awesome computer from my last review a few days ago so that's good :)

Something came up that I figured I had to bring up, it turns out my system's locking up had nothing to do with crysis ; it locked up while listening to music and checking out parts on IE... interesting.... It's weird but other than a quick restart once...
