HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Review

HP once built its TouchSmart line using notebook components because they required much less active cooling. Limiting the number of fans inside the machine made it quieter. This TouchSmart not only uses a desktop CPU—Intel's low-power Core i7-2600S,...

Magic Canvas UI; fast CPU (for an all-in-one); discrete GPU; lots of memory

Poorly placed display input switch; 5,400rpm hard drive

All-in-one computers provide extremely limited upgrade options, so we were happy to see that HP planted plenty of memory inside this one: 8GB of DDR3/1,336MHz running in dual-channel mode. While we like having a 2TB hard drive at our disposal, the one...

HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Review

All-in-one computers aren't often looked upon fondly by geeks, but they're a segment of traditional desktop computers that's gaining attention while old-fashioned towers fall out of the spotlight.

Robust build quality ; Excellent 1080p display ; Great sound quality ; Well-designed touch software

Expensive as tested ; Poor discrete graphics performance ; No HDMI out

It’s the base model of this all-in-one that swoops in from the night sky to save our luxury-priced 520 from itself.

HP TouchSmart 520: Great Performance, Great Value

If you're in the market for an all-purpose all-in-one PC, look no further. HP has done a fantastic job on its TouchSmart 520--it's got most everything you need, including a Blu-ray burner and USB 3.0, and it's one of the best performers we've seen in...

Strong performance ; Very accurate touchscreen

Touchscreen is a bit dim

This is a great deal: an excellent performer with premium specs for less than $1400

HP TouchSmart 520-1070

In short, as I hope is obvious by now, I can't recommend that you buy this retail model when you can get the same thing for less directly from HP.

The retail-only HP TouchSmart 520-1050y offers solid performance for its price, and has most of the features we look for in a midrange all-in-one.

The lack of an HDMI input is inexcusable, but worse is the fact that you can get the same model for $50 less via

HP does shoppers a disservice with the inconsistent pricing between this otherwise decent retail-only desktop and the more affordable, identical model available via HP's Web site.

HP TouchSmart 520-1070

Just below the screen is a speaker bar, pumping out crisp, clear sound. Thanks to Beats Audio, it's the perfect complement to the HD display, producing clear tones and rich bass. Accompanying the all-in-one is a wireless keyboard and mouse, which share...

Quad-core Intel Core i7-2600s processor is fast. Huge 2TB hard drive. Big 1080p display. Beats Audio. HDMI-in offers long term use. Blu-ray, TV-tuner and remote. Bundled with wireless keyboard and mouse

Large power brick. Short 60-day subscription to Norton Internet Security

The HP TouchSmart 520-1070 all-in-one desktop PC isn't for the budget set, but a quad-core Intel processor, 2TB hard drive, and a slew of entertainment features make it a worthwhile purchase.

HP TouchSmart 520-1047c

The 520-1047c comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse, as well as 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, which means that the only cable you absolutely need to connect is the power brick. There's an Ethernet port for people who don't have a wireless router. The wireless...

USB 3.0. Large touch screen. Minimal bloatware. 1.5TB hard drive. 2-year warranty

No HDMI in or out. No Blu-ray. Low powered integrated graphics

The HP TouchSmart 520-1047c is a decent touch-oriented all-in-one desktop, but there are other systems in the same price range that beat it in terms of features.

HP TouchSmart 520-1030

All of the 520-1030's components are built into the screen, including the Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB of memory, 1TB hard drive, Wi-Fi adapter, and DVD burner. The sides and back of the system are where you'll find the six accessible USB 2.0 ports,...

HP TouchSmart interface. Beats Audio. Wireless everything. Wireless dongle pre-installed to connect keyboard and mouse. Intel Core i3 processor

Only 60-day subscription to Internet Security. Bloatware. No USB 3.0. No eSATA. No HDMI

The HP TouchSmart 520-1030 is a midrange all-in-one PC with a speedy Intel processor and the best touch screen software in the business. However, it lacks some features that the majority of like-priced competitors have, and ultimately costs the system...

HP TouchSmart 520-1070

If you're going to spend north of $1,000 on an all-in-one (AIO) PC, it had better deliver the goods. After all, we've tested more than a few recent, less-pricey AIO computers that we recommend, such as the Asus ET2410IUTS-B019C and the Toshiba...

Design is both good-looking and highly functional ; Substantive touch software ; Excellent application performance ; Impressive audio and video output

Radeon graphics in test model didn’t add much gaming muscle ; Windows 8 would make this machine more appealing, but won't be available for months

No matter how you configure the TouchSmart 520, you’ll get a well-designed entertainment PC with a crisp 23-inch display, booming audio, and the best touch software going.

HP TouchSmart 520-1010a touchscreen PC

A 23in touchscreen PC that can be quite fun to use, especially in a family setting

Smooth 2-input touchscreen ; All-in-one design ; Full HD

Slow graphics performance ; No digital audio out

The TouchSmart 520 is a capable computer system for everyday tasks, but its touchscreen offers a better way to interact with your content. Simply point to, drag or tap your files to let the magic happen. It's a very decent home machine that should go...

HP TouchSmart 520 PC review

HP's TouchSmart 520 is a beautiful all-in-one touchscreen PC that's bedecked in Beats audio finery and multi-media functionality

Curved, minimalist design ; Beats audio technology ; Built in TV card

Average keyboard ; Touch no better than keyboard ; Touch will be better on Win 8

We’re yet to be convinced that touchscreens are the way to go with Windows 7, especially with touch-focused Windows 8 just around the corner. But the TouchSmart still succeeds thanks to a bright, highly-detailed screen and a great audio performance.
