Intel vs. AMD: Battle of the world's smallest PCs

These incredibly tiny, amazingly quiet computers can fit almost anywhere and perform most any task. But who has the best concept for an ultra-small-form-factor PC--Intel or AMD?

Cool and quiet operation ; VESA mounting bracket included ; Supports mSSD storage

No USB 3.0 ports ; No eSATA ports ; Must provide your own power cable, memory, storage, etc

SSD Boot Issue Fixed

After the BIOS updated I mentioned in my las review, the final fix to the SSD boot / crash issue was to remove the Muskin label on the mSATA board to allow the Intel thermal pad to reduce the mSATA temperature. With the label, the mSATA board ran at...

Tiny, fast, and drives two monitors. 3 USB ports and a GBE Ethernet port make it useful

Can have intermittent boot / crash issues if not setup properly

Intel #1 at IC's, Not #1 at Drivers

I installed the 0048 BIOS with no luck. Then I set Intel Dynamic Power Technology to OFF in the BIOS and that solved both the Win 7 blue screen issue and SSD boot problem. Also, for what it's worth, I set the video memory size to 64MB (it won't boot if...

Tiny, fast, simple and should be reliable. Also quiet

I had intermittent Windows 7 blue screen freezes and "no bootable device found" issues for a while. Happy that I seem to have found a fix for it (below)

Flawed design

Small form factor as a HTPC

Overheat like hell ; Never worked right. Replacement also cannot find the boot device (mSATA SSD) ; Can't be Intel let this product out the door ; Will never buy any of Intel's desktop products

Great for HTPC

I set this up as a HTPC and it works great. Running ubuntu and xbmc. Hardware video decoding works great.

Small and quiet. More than powerful enough for HD playback. Visual bios is neat

Does not come with a power cord... but not that big of a deal. Understandable that it was not included (international packaging)

Sweet Little Rig

Would be nice for a RF remote to power the PC when mounted to the back of a LCD or bluetooth included so we can save a USB port for the input dongle.

Very easy to setup opening the box was funny with the Intel jingle. I had doa memory the first time but I had some spare memory that I got in there and it worked perfectly. Everything works super fast just like a full pc with a ssd and ddr3. This was...

Didn't come with the 3 dollar laptop power cable. I knew this before I purchased it so I ordered one but really can't you include that

Make no mistake, it's a fully fledged PC

I installed win 8 pro, Crucial 64gb M4 ssd, 16gb Corsair Vengeance RAM. I am using it as XBMC box. It performs great. It plays anything I throw at it.

small ; plenty of processing power ; the perfect XBMC box

pricey ; not compatible with some brands of memory ; no usb 3.0 ; wireless card should have been included ; no power cord

Good HTPC box

Using this as a headless SageTV server with iSCSI ReadyNAS storage. Plenty of horsepower for transcoding. Only concern is the longevity of the laptop style cooling fan.

Small size ; 3 year warranty ; Low power consumption ; Beefy processor ; Intel Gigabit ethernet ; Quiet ; Fast boot (less than 10 seconds)

Idiotic Intel jingle instead of a power cord ; Runs hot... can overheat if WIFI card installed under the mSATA card ; No 2.5" drive support despite plenty of space for one ; Plastic top and bottom pieces. Aluminum covers would have been better for heat...

Sweet NUC

Boots insanely fast with windows 8. I've gone from no power to ready in 8 seconds. Nice and compact and performs as well as my core I3 did with an Intel DH77CF board. now I can have a full blown windows 8 computer with me at all times wherever an hdmi...

would of been nice to have know I was going to need the Clover Leaf Laptop Power Cord fortunately I had one but I would of been bummed if I didnt

Almost a perfect HTPC platform

I run this in conjunction with OpenELEC/XBMC. This system easily beats other custom HTPC builds in terms of performance at a very low level of power consumption. It's probably the best integrated system I have built so far. The only real downside is...

Low power, compact ; Great performance ; Incredibly well integrated

Lack of HDMI CEC support ; Lack of Custom Solutions Header
