Design and functionality are sparking a renaissance for network-attached storage. One of the best examples is the Linksys by Cisco Media Hub (NMH 405): It's a NAS device at its core, but it arrives with many of the bells and whistles you'd expect ...

Top panel may be a child hazard. The Web interface is slow to respond
The small size and elegant design of the Linksys by Cisco Media Hub Media Hub (NMH 405) can complement many entertainment devices, and gives you remote access to your files, music, and videos.

linksys nmh405 media hub review: The Linksys NMH405 Media Hub is a back-to-basics "media-aggregation" server that is perfect for beginners but it does have its hiccups.

Can retrieve files away from home
No HDMI port, no digital audio port; can't play MKV, M2TS, or DVD ISO
Why are Linksys fans (read: probable employees) on here insisting that this is a great NAS solution instead of a media hub? Waste of time! I want a set-top box that networks to a computer or an NAS that HDMI connects to my tv. This is NOT it. Linksys blow...
Quiet. Non-horrible interface
Why bother with a media hub that doesn't play dvd iso's wmv's or Matroska????(MKV) Why not have a video out, and dispense with needing an xbox or PS3? (meaning total price is not $349, it's $600-$700 + cables and network knowledge)
An average HTPC nowadays can play blu-ray movies/H264 encoded files, record TV shows, and also serves files for the entire home network. If you want media streaming, just add TVersity or something. Seriously, you can easily turn your HTPC to do everything...
