Minix Neo X7 review

While Android is familiar to many people as an operating system on tablets and smartphones, one infant industry also benefitting from its rise is the mini-PC business. Mini-PCs (also labeled media hubs) use existing mobile processors coupled with...

Decent build quality ; Gobs of ports ; Strong CPU performance ; 16GB of internal storage

Custom interface lacks polish ; Android isn’t a good general-purpose OS ; Poor graphics performance ; Expensive (relative to the competition)

Despite strong build quality and high-end hardware, the Minix Neo X7 proves Android still isn’t cut out to fill in for a PC.

Bugs, crashes...dumb media hub

If you plan on using this box for Google Play Music, don't bother because it does not work. Every time I have had to reset this box and set it all back up again I regret not simply sending it back for a refund. I dont even use it now out of pure...

I dont really know anymore...everything I bought this device for seems to not work ; Looks cool, packaging was trendy, has good wifi range and lots of ports

XBMC constantly crashes, constantly resets itself back to default settings. I'v spent more time setting XBMC up and resetting this silly box (about 6 times now) than I have spent enjoying anything it provides. I have another branded XBMC box I bought...

Still not good enough

ONLY for tech savvy folks, DO NOT get this for your wife or parents they will hate it.

More features than you'll need

Internal flash IO is very slow, its as if your running of a usb or sd card ; After a few weeks is will slow to a crawl until you reset the device. Software, like all these devices is buggy ; Controller sucks even with third party HIDs (again like most...

Bad company, poor product

Good concept, but that's about it. CPU is fast, but GPU is not that great. Decent user community to help deal with all the problems you'll run into

Lousy wi-fi, only supports 20MHz radio rate which makes high bit rate 1080p material next to impossible to use (IE ripped Blu-Rays). Difficult with popular Android apps like google music which crashes after about 30 minutes of use. Frustrating use of...

Decent product

Nice little Android box. I have not done much besides load Netflix so forth onto it and used it to stream

Built in wifi is very choppy when streaming movies and other media. If you hook it up to a wired connection everything streams smoothly

good but over priced for compared to whats out now

id go with a oyna or a fire tv for the price you can get oyan for like $50-60 on sale and fire tv is faster and only 100

good wifi fast and easy set up and open use with xvmc but not as fast as fire tv but all in all its way better than net flix and having to download tv shows xbmc is the bomb and don't spend $$$ on apple tv its a waste of money

over price that oyna and fire tv have better hard wear for less

Great box, but a work in progress

A user named Strauzo has created a custom ROM that has gone a long way to address video and speed issues. Definitely look into this and hopefully, it is a sign of progress to come. This box is definitely in it's infancy, but if you like to tinker and...

The build quality and overall hardware is great. As the software is further refined, this box will really shine. There are a plethora of inputs, dual band wifi, 2gb DDR3 and what is really a pretty fast SOC. The MINIX forum is a pretty decent...

The main glaring drawback is Rockchip's inability to push SDK updates to their OEM partners. While the RK3188 is quite fast in terms of hardware, outdated software really hampers it's performance. Many customizations are required currently to get this...

Just Avarage

Not as fast as tegra chips (and not as fast as I expected), I may have been better off with on of those android “gaming” boxes. Adobe flash only runs in their provided browser. Saw some video lag / frame skipping but I haven't done any tweaking. A full...

Wifi is strong ; Comes with 4.2.2 ; Comes with cables

Cost! unless you want the audio outs there's cheaper Quads around ; No USB keyboard mapping for some of the "soft" navigation keys. There should have been at least a "open the pop-up window" key
