Shuttle XS35GTA v3 review

Shuttle has built a respectable name at the market as a maker of compact and high-quality barebones and miniPC systems. Earlier this year the company refreshed its XS35 series, which now includes models with integrated or discrete graphics. The XS35...

If you are looking for a total silent mini PC with enough horsepower to playback your Blu-Ray movies, the Shuttle XS35GTA v3 could easily be your choice.

Shuttle XS35 GT Barebone PC Review

The XS35 GT Barebone from Shuttle, after equipping it with the necessary hardware, can be used as a media center, little server or seedbox; its main advantages are that it is completely silent and consumes very little power, so we can leave it on 24/7...

Shuttle XS35GT-804

It isn't often we see new nettop PCs since it's a small market, and when we do the differences between them are often few and far between. Shuttle's XS35 is another Atom-powered mini-PC that aims to keep its presence unknown while getting to work as...

A discreet, low-power PC with plenty of storage space and HD-capable graphics

Almost perfect

The sides have square holes for ventilation. Beneath that is a metal screen, probably for ESD. Up close, the look isn't quite as clean as in the pictures. It is still fine. Even with the small size of this case, there's still some air inside (it...

Good price, size and construction. Opening the case and installing the HD was easy. Documentation was sparse but adequate. OS installation went smoothly and it recognized my wireless keyboard and mouse without issue. I love the tiny power supply...

The space for memory was two small by a tiny amount. I used a Dremel to take off 1mm of one corner of the Kingston memory card in order to allow everything to fit. I could have smashed it in (without resorting to the Dremel) but might have...

1080P Questionable

Using as a Boxee Box (streaming web content, local content media player) with 4GB RAM and 500GB WD AV-25 HD under Windows 7 Home 64-bit. At 720P via HDMI to a 1080P 52" TV via HDMI, this works very well with 1080P Blu-Ray content. At full resolution...

Small form-factor, silent (depending on selected Hard Drive), HDMI output (simplifies cabling)

802.11n limited to 150mb/sec. A better WiFi card could get up to the full 300mb/sec (plus bluetooth). Shuttle tech support doesn't recommend using the Intel card that could do this (possible BIOS limitation?). I may try it anyway. Playback...

Silent. Exterior attractive. Flash streaming works well

Video decoding fails for many formats. Forget about most streaming online video, as the encryption plus video decoding maxes out the CPU. The ION itself might be able to handle the throughput, but there is NO software driver support to utilize the...

Great media center PC

Using this as a media center PC. Works great. Nice video output. Good networking

Only wish this had a Blu-ray player in it instead of just a DVD player

Good, not great

Lots of complaints there but I'm still using it daily and working through the issues. Since Comcast started handing out those little digital boxes for all of your non-HD DVR rooms I've been annoyed with them and watching pretty much everything on this....

Would be silent with an SSD. This is the first time I've ever cared about HD noise. Works great with local & network files

Windows 7 home premuim ; Can't get the DVD drive to read movies. Not sure whose fault that is. Driver disks loaded fine. Movie name shows up in MyComputer. VLC, Boxee, Media center. No Dice ; Can't play Netflix HD streams. 3800 is out of the question....

Great Media Streamer

To the first reviewer who complained about to fan... that is part of it's Selling points, fanless and quiet Screw mounts for HDD and ODD aren't perfectly aligned as another reviewer mentioned but it isn't too bad, just a bit more force is required ...

Small, Vesa Mountable (with adapter), quiet & Fanless ; Next GEN ION plays 1080p flawlessly ; One of VERY few nettops with a disk drive, user replaceable is a plus

only 2GB RAM max, would have nice for 4GB, makes Windows 7 and WMC a bit slugglish when browsing around ; WIFI sometimes makes HD movies stutter(i have a nice N router w/ DD-WRT), but then again, It's Wifi, when has it ever been reliable ; VESA mount...

Awesome XBMC platform

I configured it with 2GB of RAM and a 30GB SSD and installed (awesome!) and it has played everything I've thrown at it. Not having 10/100/1000 isn't really that big of a deal because I'm using it as a streamer, but since I have gigabit in...

Silent ; Plays 1080p

No S/PDIF ; Only 10/100 ethernet
