SilverStone ST50EF-Plus High-Efficiency Power Supply Review

The Element ST50EF-Plus is the first SilverStone power supply to receive the 80 Plus certification for high efficiency. And thanks to high efficiency, it runs cool and quiet, while delivering the same stable outputs we have come to expect from...

disappointing......for the cost

I built an all silverstone SFF using this power supply and SUGO SF02, and an NT06. The supply is quiet but, but not any more than other $90 500W supplies. This is the SC or short-cable model and while the most of the cables are shorter than normal, the...

Nice and quiet

Nice and quiet

The power supply is surprisingly quite, just like a power supply should be. I put it in a HTPC and it makes NO noise! The large 120 mm fan keeps things nice and cool. The leads are shorter than a normal power supply, so make sure that they will...

SILVERSTONE ST50EF-Plus 500W ATX 12V 2.2 SLI Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply

I'm gonna buy another one for my new computer

I really like this ; It's SUPER quiet, that's why I like it

Good replacement

Replaced a 450W PSU and I liked the look and the cabling of this device. Lots of cables to address whatever you need

Quiet but a little pricey

No problems with it so far. I first missed the 8pin to 4pin converter for the 12V motherboard connection, so for a while I couldn't figure out how to attach it to my pc.

Quiet - has 120mm fan that's whisper quiet. 80+ efficiency also means it won't get as hot so the fan won't have to work so hard. I can't hear it in my pc

Price - a little expensive

No brainer

Previous reviewer mentioned it has only 1 PCI (6 pin) cable. In fact it has two. The specs for this PSU seem to match the minimum required to power the ASUS P5KVM. 500W for a mATX should be more than enough.

I used this for a HTPC build in a Thermaltake Lanbox and mATX ASUS P5KVM MB. Tight fit but doable ; I hardly know the PC is running, so it's quiet so far

None so far

Amazing Power Supply

Over all, this power supply has a few quirks (noted above) but they weren't enough of a deal for me to rate this thing any lower then I did. Very solid power supply and I hope to keep it for many years to come.

Simply amazing powersupply. I am currently running 3 hard drives, overclocked processor, 4GB of RAM, high end graphics card, high end sound card, ATA controller card, 6 120mm high CFM fans and light up LED Christmas tree on it and it doesn't even...

Only has one cable for graphics cards so you either need to get a splitter for cards that require two of them or get a card that only needs one. Not enough 4-pin Molex connectors

Works every time

Cable specs not accurate on box or NewEgg site

The rep even agreed that there should be some kind of label that describes the functionality of the 8/4-pin EPS12V/ATX12V connector.

Great looking PSU, nice short cables for micro-ATX case. Efficiency is great. Quiet

The cable specs are actually ; 1 x 20+4pin motherboard connector (300mm) (11.8") ; 1 x 8/4--pin EPS12V/ATX12V connector (300mm)(11.8") ; 2 x 6-pin PCI-E (380mm)(15") ; 2 x SATA power connectors (300mm + 75mm)(11.8"+3") ; 6 x 4-pin IDE power connectors...

Product Specifications

Equipped with a new generation of design and components, the Element ST50EF continues SilverStone's stride toward more efficient power supplies. With higher than 80% efficiency across all loading conditions (from 20% to 100%), the ST50EF produces less wasted heat than typical power supplies and allows the included 120mm fan to operate at minimal speeds, ensuring silent operation for nearly all applications. This stable output and efficient characteristics are packed inside an environmentally-friendly casing that is compatible with nearly any ATX enclosures on the market. If strong power for dual core/dual video card processing and silence are the main priorities, the Element st50ef-plus is for you.
