outstanding 1u barebones

2x gigE NICs by intel is an added bonus, since this server is used as a network appliance, allowing NAPI use in packet capture over the interfaces.

like the first reviewer stated, the cables were routed perfectly, making upgrading components a breeze. dropped in a x3220 kentsfield and used the included heatsink - and the temps are very low under load. 2x2gb memory and a 500gb wb caviar gave me an...

lack of dvd drive, usb dvd drives are cheap though

Awesome, awesome, awesome

I waited almost a year to write this review so I could see how the server has really performed.

Great price. Easy to setup. Cool temps. I love the little 'air flow' piece that directs air over the cooling block.

I gave it 4 stars because it only accepts DDR2-667 RAM for 1GIG modules. For 2GIG modules one must use DDR2-533.

Awesome, awesome, awesome

I waited almost a year to write this review so I could see how the server has really performed. This is my second Super Micro purchase. This was built for a medium web business that receives 50-70 MILLION hits a month to their server. It sits in a...

pretty solid buy

this DOES include a CPU heatsink... incase anyone was wondering like I was

easy enough to put together. working very well

fan is loud, but I'm going to colocate it, so that's not an issue. the fan casing to shoot it to the CPU is a little flimsey

great server barebones!

I installed Intel Raid manager, and that didn't break anything, driver wise. Also, ALL devices and drivers were already detected/installed after first boot. I was pleasantly surprised.

I've used many supermicro cases in the past. This one is just ad great as the previous ones. The cables were routed perfectly, everything was laid out nice.the included copper heatsink worked great. Temps are low, and the fan control does great...

The disk drive is not a DVD drive. Obviously, server 2008 is a DVD, so I had to connect an external DVD drive for the OS install. that is the only thing I regret about this one. I looked on newegg, and there are a few for about $40-$50 more that do...

Whoa!!

If anyone has any recommended setups to go with on here. It may be a while before I purchase the rest of the parts to complete it. When all that is complete, ill probably run a raid Linux system.

Just received it today. This is my first rackmount server, so im pretty pumped to get it running.

Smells funny... :)

Very Nice System

Very very HIGH VALUE small good runs-cool server. At this price, the CONS list must be taken in stride.

Inexpensive, high build quality, heatsink is over-spec - very good, nice color (black), reliable

combo deal

There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Supermicro SuperServers, in general, are awesome. I've got a rack full of them. This one in particular doesn't outshine the others, but it's got all the usual features. I had an opportunity to call their technical support department today, which was...

This is not a problem with the server itself, but with newegg's combo deal. The processor that was suggested had a 1333mhz FSB, and the mobo on this server only supports up to 1066mhz FSB. True, I should have double-checked, but the Xeon 3085 was so...

Server

I've purchased 12 of the 5015-MF's from Newegg and all have been working perfectly, I just picked up 2 of these and they are working perfectly as well.

Only one problem, and a big one.

Consumer review by:

Does not support more than one stick of 667mhz 2GB RAM!

We own Tyan barebones with the mobo's using the same chipset and bios which work perfectly. Even Intel's specs note that the chipset is supposed to work with 8GB at 667mhz. If you want to use this hardware with 2GB 667mhz then stay away from this system.

None

Only till you read through the manual will you find one sentence mentioning the fact that this mobo WILL NOT take 2GB 667mhz RAM, only 1GB 667mhz. This limitation is not mentioned on Newegg and can only be found in one sentence in the entire manual
