Canon EOS 50D

If you're a night owl, you'll love the lightning-fast EOS 50D's sharp and stellar low-light images. Its price, though, is a bit high.

Lighting fast. Produces beautiful low-light images. Large, high-resolution LCD screen. HDMI-out.

Expensive. Big and heavy.

Canon EOS 50D

At first glance the Canon EOS 50D digital SLR camera isn't a dramatic upgrade over its predecessor, the Canon EOS 40D (which remains available). For a price difference of about $300 (the 50D sells for $1600, including an EF 18-to-200mm, f/3.5-to-5.6 IS...

Solid design ; Offers face detection mode

Live View shooting remains convoluted

Though this is not a must-buy upgrade over the 40D, it does have some new and friendly features and shooting modes.

Canon EOS 50D Review

Almost exactly a year after the arrival of the EOS 40D, Canon has announced the 50D, which we're assured will be a sister-model, rather than a replacement. Recent history has seen Canon release new models every 18 months-or-so but it's been a busy year...

Canon EOS 50D review

With entry-level dSLRs getting pretty cheap and close to commoditized, competition for the attention of experienced amateur photographers is heating up the $1,000-$1,500 price range of the market. Former occupants of that segment, like the Canon EOS...

Excellent performance and photo quality; solid, comfortable shooting design.

Relatively basic feature set for its class.

A very good midrange dSLR, the Canon EOS 50D is a compelling--but not necessarily a must-have--choice for Canon upgraders.

Serious amateur and semi-professional photographers are the target market for the Canon EOS 50D - the same market that its predecessors, the 40D, 30D, 20D, ... were targeted to. Like its predecessors, the 50D can be used in fully automatic point and...

Historically, only Canon's 1-series bodies were weather sealed. With the 40Dd came partial weather sealing and the 50D has received similar partial weather sealing. I'm not ready to get my 50D wet, but every avoided repair is a big deal in both time...

Canon EOS 50D review

Sooner than expected, considering Canon usually takes a period of 18 months, the Canon EOS 50D was introduced in August. Although I immediately presumed this was the successor to the 40D, Canon fiercely denied this. The Canon 50D should be considered...

The introduction of the Canon EOS 50D came as a surprise for many of us. So did the announcement to not consider this model the successor to the 40D. Yet the introduction of the Canon 50D is completely logical. The improved sensor techniques with in...
