Canon EOS Rebel T8i review: Nothing to see here

With the Rebel T8i, the magic of the T7i has been lost. Even as it makes some enthusiast-friendly changes, it doesn't do anything to keep DSLRs relevant.

Great live-view autofocus ; 4K video is available ; AF-ON button, rear control dial ; 800-shot battery rating

4K is cropped, 24p only ; No high frame rate 1080p ; Small, dark viewfinder

Optical viewfinder smaller than competing mirrorless EVFs ; Limited focus area when using viewfinder ; Dead-end lens system ; 4K footage is cropped ; Doesn't use the latest image sensor

The Canon EOS Rebel T8i SLR offers a few improvements over the T7i, but most family photographers are better off with a mirrorless system in 2020.

I had a few errands to run, and my wife opted to ride along. Photo ops were unforeseen, but the Rebel T8i in a toploader case was a convenient addition to the back seat.
