Canon EOS M6

Canon's mirrorless cameras are getting better, but the EOS M6 still can't quite measure up to some competitors.

24MP image sensor. 9.1fps burst capture. Tilting touch LCD. Wi-Fi. Compact. Add-on EVF available.

Video tops out at 1080p. Focus can struggle in dim light.

Canon's current generation of mirrorless cameras deliver serious improvements compared with earlier efforts, but they still have some room for improvement. The EOS M6 is solidly built and compact, with appropriately sized lenses to go along with it....

Canon EOS M6

If you are looking for an extremely high image quality to camera size ratio, the Canon EOS M6 may have your name on it.While the M6 is a tiny camera, it gives up nothing in terms of image quality to any of Canon's other current APS-C sensor format EOS...

If you have been waiting to jump into a Canon MILC and an APS-C sensor format works for you, the EOS M6 should be a great choice.

Canon EOS M6 Review

Canon continues to develop its EOS M range of compact system cameras (CSC) through the EOS M6, a diminutive camera packed with the sort of features one would expect from a Canon DSLR.

It took me a while to warm to the Canon EOS M6, but the more I used it the more liked it. The camera sits in the hand nicely and a real strong point is its intuitive layout and controls that can be customised to suit one’s shooting preferences.

Canon EOS M6 Review

The 24-megapixel APS-C image sensor and DIGIC 7 image processor help deliver good image quality and impressive overall performance, but the Canon EOS M6 has to separate itself from not only its EOS M5 sibling but very good mirrorless cameras from...

Enthusiast-oriented compact camera body; Good image quality in most situations; Impressive Dual Pixel CMOS AF; Very good overall performance

Dynamic range and high ISO image quality aren't quite up to par with some of its competition; No 4K video recording; Video features in general are underwhelming; Native EF-M lens selection is limited

Canon EOS M6 Continues to Expand Mirrorless Product Line

The Canon EOS M6 is the technical successor to the EOS M3. As such, it appears that Canon is realigning its rather confusing EOS M product naming scheme to mirror (if you will) its DSLR product line.

The Canon EOS M6 will be available in April starting at $779 for the body only. Available kits include the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM for $899 and the EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens for $1279. Check it out here at B&H Photo and here at Amazon.com.

Canon EOS M6 preview

Canon's EOS M6 is a mid-range mirrorless camera, featuring a 24 Megapixel APS-C sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, Wifi, Bluetooth and a tilting touchscreen. Announced in February 2017, it's Canon's sixth mirrorless interchangeable lens camera and...

Canon EOS M6 review

Mid-range marvel?

Plenty of direct control ; Compact and lightweight ; Very good autofocus system ; Great operational speeds

Better build quality expected at this level ; No integrated viewfinder ; No 4K video recording ; No electronic shutter option

The Canon EOS M6 isn't quite specified up to the standard we’d expect for a camera with such a price tag, but it's a sound all-round performer and perfectly good choice for EOS M and EOS M10 users looking for something a little more powerful.

Canon EOS M6 review: A fine compact CSC

Classy and compact, the Canon EOS M6 is a solid choice but it's not cheap.

Superb image quality ; Small and stylish ; Lots of tactile controls

Expensive ; No 4K video

So at current prices and against the existing competition the Canon EOS M6 is a safe bet but doesn’t quite do enough to warrant a recommendation.
