Canon PowerShot SD900 reviewed

CNET has just published one of the first reviews that we've seen of the Canon PowerShot SD900, the recently-released 10-megapixel camera that comes with a 3x zoom and a 2.5-inch screen. The site gave the SD900 a respectable 7.6 (out of 10) rating, but...

Powershot SD900 Digital Camera

The PowerShot SD900 is among Canon's pricier Digital Elph compact cameras. For $450 (as of February 15, 2007), you get a tough, attractive titanium body equipped with a generous 10-megapixel sensor, though the camera does lack a few of the high-end...

Accurate portraits using face detection Takes very sharp photos

Lacks image stabilization High price

If you're looking for the greatest number of megapixels, the SD900 won't disappoint. Until Canon adds image stabilization and a longer zoom, this should remain one of the best compact point-and-shoots around

Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital Elph

Canon's latest compact camera is good, but not outstanding.

Excellent image quality. Very good performance. Face-detection features worked well. Most high ISO settings were very clean. Excellent burst mode.

Canon needs to add more user-friendly menus. Video quality was mediocre. Not enough manual capabilities. Some flash shots were uneven. A bit pricey.

Canon PowerShot SD900

Announced (along with a handful of other PowerShots) just before Photokina in September 2006, the SD900 (we'll call it this throughout the review - see below for EU/Japanese names) sits at the top of Canon's successful ELPH / IXUS range and offers the...

Excellent resolution, good color, Clean, detailed results at lower ISO settings - ISO 400 usable, with fairly light-handed noise reduction, Reliable exposure system, Fast and accurate focus, Responsive operation, Excellent user interface, easy to use,...

AiAF focus a bit unpredictable - turn it off, Very little manual control, ISO 800 and 1600 of limited use, Some smearing of low contrast fine detail at anything over base ISO, Occasional purple fringing, Still no exposure information for shutter speeds...

Camera manufacturers have been producing expensive special-edition titanium-bodied SLRs for years; the combination of durability, strength and lightness (titanium has the highest strength to weight ratio of any metal) offers some real benefits for...

Canon PowerShot SD900 review

The 10-megapixel Canon PowerShot SD900 manages to be stylish without being inconvenient or awkward. Its sturdy metal body, an attractive matte-gray with black accents, is smooth and slightly curvy, and at 6.7 ounces and 1.1 inches thick, it's just the...

Small and comfortable; responsive performance; decent images.

Few manual controls; noticeable fringing.

A very good compact camera, the 10-megapixel Canon PowerShot SD900 nonetheless falls short of its faster, more full-featured, albeit lower-resolution competitors.

Canon Digital IXUS 900 Ti review

September 2006 marked the 10th anniversary of the IXUS camera, which gave Canon a good reason to celebrate. Ten years of IXUS is without question an impressive achievement in today's rapidly changing camera world. Ten years ago, Canon embarked on their...

Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital ELPH Digital Camera - Hands-On Preview

Megapixel counters will be drawn to the 10 megapixel sensor on the Canon SD900, the most yet on a Digital ELPH. But there are other cool new features on this little ELPH worth noting besides its taut titanium skin: ISO settings as high as 3,200, Face...
