Kyocera Finecam SL400R - digital camera review

Kyocera Finecam SL400R With the Finecam SL400R, Kyocera has added 1 million pixels to its groundbreaking sequence shooter, the Finecam SL300R. Not a lot else has changed. There's still the blazing burst-mode performance that yields 188 full-resolution...

Continuous high-speed burst mode at 3fps to 4fps; easy automated operation; manual focus; small size.

Sometimes clumsy to use; average image quality; no tripod socket; no TIFF or raw options; limited exposure controls.

The astounding high-speed burst mode and ultracompact size are still the big news in this 4-megapixel upgrade from the SL300R for sequence shooters on the move.

Kyocera Finecam SL400R

This camera gets full marks for fun factor, style and performance, but has worse image quality than its 3.2 MP predecessor.

Stylish design. Speedy, with a great burst mode. Rich point-and-shoot feature set. Easy-to-understand menu system.

Lack of lens cap makes this shirt-pocket shooter not so pocketable. No optical viewfinder. Produces only mediocre sharpness with some exposure problems in both flash and daylight conditions.

While the SL400's transition pixel ratio is still better than the 5.0-percent limit we consider acceptable, the ratio, combined with subpar resolution, results in overall softness in pictures. In our daylight still life, the exposure was well balanced...

Kyocera Finecam SL400R Digital Camera Camera

Smaller and thinner than a frugal man's wallet, the well-constructed Finecam SL400R is one among a class of ultrathin cameras that includes the Konica Minolta DiMage X and Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-T1. However, it parts company with its competitors in two...

The controls for the SL400R are pretty standard fare, including the usual four-way thumb button with only one shortcut function for changing the flash mode. Everything else is in fairly easy-to-navigate menus. Setting resolution, exposure value, and...

Whats so special about the Finecam SL400R that we bring you a full review in Digital Camera Magazine? Plenty. If youre into tiny, ultra-light cameras that you can carry anywhere, this little beauty fits right in. The Finecam is about the size of a deck...

How does the US$399 Kyocera Finecam SL400R stack up against the competition? We like its small size, swivel body, indoor/outdoor display and speedy operation. However, the 5-megapixel Sony Cyber-shot T1 is even smaller and has a much larger 2.5-inch...

Kyocera Finecam SL400R

This camera's lightning-quick continuous-shooting mode and stylish, compact design make it stand out.

Continuous high-speed burst mode at 3fps to 4fps ; Easy automated operation ; Manual focus ; Small size

Sometimes clumsy to use ; Average image quality ; No tripod socket ; No TIFF or raw options ; Limited exposure controls

Image quality, even with the upgraded 4-megapixel sensor, has not been Kyocera's strong suit. Our test shots had only average sharpness and lots of JPEG artifacts, although colours were vivid. If you shoot action with this camera, you'll want to try...

Kyocera Finecam SL400R

Kyocera's Finecam SL400R has the most innovative styling of any of the compact cameras here: it has a swivelled body which cuts the camera in two so you can swing the lens down giving it a cross-like form factor as seen from the side. It's a funky...

Kyocera Finecam SL400R

The Kyocera Finecam SL400R is a 4MP version of the previously released SL300R. PC Mag reviews the Kyocera Finecam SL400R and writes - 'The SL400R scored a solid 2.77-second boot time and 2.34-seconds recycle time. We are less impressed, however, with...

Good camera with nice features

I bought this camera in 2003 after seeing someone with one and liking the split body style. The 4.0 megapixel is nice, but becoming outdated with today's technology. I like being able to select all the different features from the menu and arrow buttons...

Great camera, shame about the battery

This is a fun camera aimed at people who mainly use a camera for point&shoot, with a few gimmicks and features thrown in. NOT for the serious shutter bug. I bought this camera for the video function, and ended up enjoying the other features of this ...

Small, fun camera with good optical zoom & great video function.

Poor battery life, expensive batteries. Jack-of all trades, master of none. Not for serious photographer.
