Leica Q (Typ 116) Review

The Leica Q (Typ 116) is a high-end, fixed-lens compact camera with a 24MP full-frame sensor and a 28mm F1.7 Summilux stabilized lens. It represents a new product line for Leica, and was the first full-frame Leica to incorporate an autofocus system.

Leica Q (Typ 116)

The Leica Q (Typ 116) is a niche camera, with a full-frame image sensor and a dedicated 28mm lens. It's not for every photographer, but it's fantastic at what it does.

Full-frame image sensor. Sharp, wide aperture lens. 6.7-inch macro mode. Fast autofocus. Large, crisp EVF. Touch-screen display. 1/16,000-sec electronic shutter. 10fps burst shooting. 1080p60 video recording. Includes Adobe Photoshop Lightroom....

Expensive. No built-in flash. Touch screen focus could be better implemented. Lacks 24fps video option.

Conclusions I've heard more than a few people ask the same question about the Q: Can it be my only camera? Given its cost, that's not an unreasonable query. I'm going to say yes, it can, but probably not if you're asking that question. Photographers...

Leica Q

At $4,250 I'll never own one, but this full-frame, fixed-lens "compact" incorporates all of Leica's traditional quality and aesthetics without forgoing the modern features many of us lower-level beings want, like autofocus, optical image stabilization,...

The Leica Q produces great photos and videos, sports a stellar lens and a delivers surprisingly good performance.

There's a lot of moire to clean up in the photos and a real grip would be nice for the money.

A terrific, if expensive, full-frame compact, the Leica Q is worth every penny for landscape and street photographers.

Leica Q (Typ 116) Review

The Leica Q (Typ 116) is a 24.2 megapixel compact camera with a 35mm full-frame (24 x 36mm) CMOS sensor with no optical low pass filter, an image-stabilized Leica Summilux 28mm f/1.7 lens with 11 lenses in 9 groups (including 3 aspherical lens...

The Leica Q (Typ 116) is the best serious compact camera that Leica have ever released, offering fantastic image quality, great handling and build-quality, and a number of surprisingly innovative features which include very fast auto-focusing, although...

Leica Q Review

Leica Camera AG has unveiled the Leica Q (Typ 116), a fixed-lens "compact" camera that packs a 24-megapixel full-frame sensor and 28mm f/1.7 lens into a compact frame.

The Leica Q is available immediately for US$4,250. As with all Leica cameras, the Q (Typ 116) comes with a free download of Adobe Lightroom 6.

Leica Q review: The best fixed-lens full-frame compact ever made

Leica is one of those brands that's been around for donkeys years, and for good reason: it makes such exceptionally good optics for its high-end M-series rangefinder cameras that it's in a league of its own. But while the photographic elite might wax...

Exceptional optical quality and sharpness throughout aperture range, superb image quality even into high ISO settings, classic Leica build quality is robust yet luxury, manual controls

JPEG standard contrast setting to excess, no tilt-angle screen, viewfinder eye-sensor a bit slow, continuous shooting on on/off switch, fiddly macro/manual focus release, no front grip

Leica cameras are known for being out of this world. Not just for their no-nonsense build and super-sharp picture quality, but astronomical pricing too. The Leica Q encompasses all of those things and yet despite its near-£3k price tag it's still an...

Leica Q (Typ 116) review

Our findings after spending several days using Leica's new 24MP full-frame compact camera

Full-frame sensor ; Fantastic images quality ; Traditional exposure controls ; Wide aperture lens

High price ; No grip on the front ; Large for a compact camera

A superb full-frame compact camera for those who like traditional controls and modern features like an electronic viewfinder. The Q is capable of producing beautiful quality images.

Leica Q (Typ 116)

The Leica Q (Typ 116) is just what we've been waiting for – a new Leica camera that isn't simply a re-brand of another model, and one that isn't ridiculously overpriced.

Fantastic handling and control ; Excellent image quality ; High-quality lens

Price pushes it into a niche ; Video capabilities could be better

Leica's full-frame compact camera proves to be the ultimate luxury point-and-shoot

Top class lens and sensor ; A joy to use ; Rugged construction ; Elegant minimalist design

It's really expensive

If you can stomach the eye-watering price, this is a truly top class point-and-shoot

Leica Q review: This camera has everything you expect from a Leica, from sharp photos to a high price

I've never been a big Leica fan: while its cameras' photo quality is great and they feel like tanks, the cameras always felt stubbornly anti-tech and too quirky for their price britches. I only put this out there for context so that when I say that the...
