Compact Camera Group Test: Travel Zooms

As the travel zoom marketplace has expanded, the technology has advanced, to the extent that even some of last year's crop of products look under-specified compared to current models. One of the most noticeable effects of the increased competition in...

When testing cameras like the six which make it into this group, we try hard to keep our criticisms relevant. For a lot of people considering products like this, pixel-level image quality is of less importance than ergonomics, operational speed,...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 is the most expensive pocket superzoom of the pack, but it does deliver solid shots, even in low light, along with a handsome feature set for the discerning photographer.

Solid image quality, even in low light. Wide and long zoom (25-300mm). GPS for geotagging photos. High-res 3-inch LCD. Stereo audio recording in video mode. Fast shot-to-shot speeds.

Price is on the high side. Offers shorter focal length than less-expensive competitors. Proprietary USB port.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7

Lots of features to experiment with; manual, semimanual controls; built-in GPS.

Disappointing low-light photos.

A very good, fully loaded compact megazoom, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 offers a lot of shooting flexibility and a built-in GPS.

Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ10 review

Panasonic has had a lot of success with its TZ-series, and if it's up to Panasonic, this success will last a little while longer. The new Panasonic Lumix TZ10 is the newest camera in the TZ-series, this time with built-in GPS. Strangely enough, GPS is...

The Panasonic TZ10 camera has had to allow a few generations to pass by, and that brings us to the fact that Panasonic has little left to improve with such successful models as the TZ7 and TZ5 cameras, both predecessors to the Panasonic DMC-TZ10....

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 Review

The Lumix DMC-TZ10 (also known as the DMC-ZS7 in the USA) is Panasonic ‘s range-topping travel-zoom camera, featuring a 12x, 25-300mm lens, AVCHD video with stereo sound and built-in GPS geo-tagging. Successor to the TZ7 model, the DMC-TZ10 has a...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 is an excellent travel-zoom camera, with the notable additions of manual shooting modes and GPS tracking sure to continue the TZ success story, albeit at the real expense of a higher price-tag than the previous TZ7 model....

Lumix DMC-ZS7

Those are in addition to all the features which made the DMC-ZS3 so appealing, namely the 12X, 25 - 300 mm zoom lens, extra-sharp 3-inch LCD display, handy Intelligent Auto mode, and HD movie mode -- just to name a few things

Very good photo quality at low ISOs ; Packs a 12X, 25 - 300 mm lens into a small, well-built package ; Optical image stabilization (new and improved) ; Beautiful 3-inch LCD display with excellent resolution and outdoor / low light visibility ; Manual...

Image quality, especially at higher ISOs, is not as good as its predecessor ; Heavy noise reduction smudges fine details, even at low ISOs, and especially at ISO 400 and above ; Highlight clipping is fairly common ; Redeye a problem, though I'm not...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 is a compact ultra zoom camera that does most things very well. I like its great zoom lens, beautiful LCD, auto and manual controls, well-implemented GPS, and HD movie mode. I wasn't as impressed with the ZS7's image...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10

The Lumix DMC-TZ10 packs what Panasonic calls 'Travel Mode with GPS' and a price tag of US $490

While the TZ10 is somewhat expensive it delivers in terms of quality and features. A decent buy.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 Review

CONCLUSION At the top of my review, we asked if Panasonic knew what it was doing by introducing a "superzoom" with a 12x lens when so many other companies are pushing toward the 30x range. With an apology to a certain car insurance commercial, does...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7/TZ10 Review

The super zoom compacts roll on: now with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 (also known as the TZ10) Panasonic offers a 12x Leica optical zoom that puts into your hands focal range that matches a 35 SLR camera's 25-300mm lens. Some lens!

Quality: I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but this little camera produced pictures that exceeded any I've seen from a compact camera. Very high quality.
