Sony Cyber-shot RX1R Preview

Look familiar? The Sony Cyber-shot RX1R doesn't replace its near-clone the RX1, but sits alongside it at the top of Sony's Cyber-shot lineup. The only difference between this camera and its cousin (brother?) is that the RX1R lacks an anti-aliasing...

We've only had a very short time with the RX1R, but because the design and handling characteristics are identical to the RX1, it felt reassuringly familiar from the moment we turned it on. The RX1R is - like its nominal predecessor - a well-designed...

Sony's full-frame compact camera goes for a sharper image

A new version of Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-RX1, the RX1R, incorporates a new version of the sensor without an optical low-pass filter.

Sony DSC-RX1R Preview

If you've been considering purchasing Sony's fixed lens / full frame DSC-RX1, you may want to consider Sony's latest addition to the RX series. Dubbed the "RX1R", this new model forgoes an optical low-pass filter on the image sensor, which allegedly...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R Review

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R is a premium compact camera aimed at the discerning photographer. The new RX1R employs an optical filter with the anti-aliasing properties removed, producing sharper images than the standard RX1 model, but at the risk of...

The only difference between the RX1R and the original RX1 is the removal of the low-pass filter. The RX1R's photos are very subtly sharper and more detailed than the RX1's, and unless you shoot a lot of subjects with very fine details like fabrics or...

Sony RX1R Review

Sony achieves the seemingly impossible with the Sony RX1R in surpassing the resolving power of its award-winning, full-frame RX1 compact camera by removing the optical low-pass filter and tweaking JPEG processing. Most of the gains are found in the...

Significantly sharper, more detailed JPEG images than those from the RX1; JPEG processing appears to minimize moire and aliasing artifacts; Same price as the RX1; Full-frame, 24-megapixel compact camera with fast Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm f/2 T* lens;...

More prone to moire, aliasing and false color than the RX1; Only subtle improvement in sharpness in RAW files; Fixed-length lens limits shooting flexibility; Viewfinders (optical or electronic) only available as optional accessories; Extremely...

Sony RX1-R review

World's smallest digital full-frame camera has anti-aliasing filter removed

Compact size ; Full frame sensor ; Aperture ring

Poor battery life ; Price ; No touchscreen

Sony, not being one of the heritage photography brands, tends to do things a little differently, just because it can. And the new Sony RX1-R is indeed different.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R review

  (Rating Hidden)

It looks like a compact camera, but the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R combines a 35mm full-frame sensor - the same size as used in a 35mm film SLR - with a specially-designed Carl Zeiss lens in a bid to produce the best photos ever seen from a camera of...

Sony RX1 R review: The best 35mm in the world?

There's a bit of a gap between a smartphone camera and digital camera. While most of us dream of a highly portable camera with incredible image quality, the technology is a little way off and so we are forced to compromise in some way.

The Sony RX1R flies very close to being our perfect camera, but the occasionally slow autofocus keeps it from being a camera you can rely on 100 per cent. It is small enough to be taken anywhere, able to take incredible photos and easy to use.
