Canon Digital IXUS 300 HS: For Picnics and Parties

Finding a camera to fit your budget and needs isn't getting any easier. There are a lot of choices and that's only part of the problem – it's difficult to find the camera to fit your budget. To add to their expanse of cameras in every category, Canon...

Priced at Rs. 24,995, it’s an extremely expensive point and shoot camera. If you're looking for something really compact and at the same time sturdy and captures decent images, then the IXUS 300 HS is a model worth considering.

Canon USA Powershot S300 Digital Elph Camera Camera

WHAT'S HOT: A brushed-metal stainless steel case, finely designed controls, and 3X zoom lens, all in a pocket-size package, make the PowerShot S300 a small jewel of a camera. An upgrade of the S100, it adds the capability to capture short video clips...

10X zoom and optical image stabilization ; Records high-definition video

Small LCD ; Short battery life

Canon includes an ample, though not outstanding, software bundle. In addition to the capable ArcSoft image editing package, Canon includes an image management utility, a handy image downloader, and the unexpectedly easy-to-use photo stitcher

Canon PowerShot S300

First off, names, the Digital IXUS 300 is this cameras European (and SE Asia) name, it is known as the PowerShot S300 Digital ELPH in the US and the IXY Digital 300 in Japan, the cameras are identical apart from the name. The Digital IXUS 300 is a...

Good resolution, fairly sharp images, hardly any chromatic aberrations, White balance works well, presets are good, Ultra-compact size, light weight, Sleek stainless steel body, stylish looks, Superb build quality (the best along with Olympus's E-10),...

Colours can sometimes seem a little dull (under saturated), "Flat" images may frustrate some users, require digital darkroom work (a contrast setting would have been useful), Poor macro ability, Flash doesn't have the power or the cover, Edge...

Whatever you may think of this camera the first impression you get when you handle it is "cool", design wise Canon have sunk their venerable knowledge of building highly appealing ultra-compact cameras into the IXUS 300, it's stainless steel body, that...

Canon Powershot S300

The PowerShot S300 Digital ELPH (also known as IXY DIGITAL 300 in Europe) is Canon's second ultra-compact digital camera and at the time of this review it's the world's smallest and lightest 2.1 megapixel camera with a 3x zoom lens. In addition the S300 o

Canon PowerShot S300 Digital Camera Review: Intro and Highlights

Canon PowerShot S300 Digital ELPH

New to the S300 is a 3X optical zoom, up from 2X on the S100. There's also a new movie mode, with sound recording, which can record as large as 640 x 480. All this in the very small, metal camera that won a lot of people over last year. Is the latest...

Did someone say it was small and stylish ; Very good photo quality ; Super-fast processing speeds ; New 3X zoom ; Movie mode with sound, as large as 640 x 480 ; Good bundle included with camera

Pricey for a 2 Megapixel camera ; Movie recording times too short ; No manual controls

The latest revision of the Digital ELPH continues to impress. While it's still essentially a point-and-shoot camera (and an expensive one at that), the S300 is small on size, big on style, and really easy to use. And that makes it a winner in my book.

Owners Opinion: Canon PowerShot S300 (Brad Willis, 15 Mar 03)

This is an excellent point and shoot. Not a lot of features, but it takes excellent photos with a minimum of fuss. Seem to be very well built. ArcSoft editing software was very easy to understand and quite useful. I bought this used for only $200,...

Macro could be better. I'd like to see more adjustability. Movie mode is too short. Max resolution is only 4 seconds. Why

Product Specifications

Taking good pictures doesn't have to be difficult. The new Canon Digital IXUS 300 goes where no digital camera has gone before. This camera has greater zoom power, more life-like color reproduction, movie clip recording, and even its own little printer. You'll still find the ease of operation, superior features, and unique quality that you trust with Digital IXUS 300. This is more than a camera; it's a revolution in photography. The stainless steel-bodied Digital IXUS 300 defines luxury and sophistication. Its ultra-compact design that is truly a work of art employs the latest optical technology. In fact, it is the world's smallest digital camera with a retractable, optical 3x zoom lens. The more powerful light guide flash, the new digital signal processing IC/CPU, and LCD monitor run more efficiently, requiring only a compact Li-Ion battery. This all boils down to a camera that's stronger, smarter, faster, yet more compact. You want your pictures to look their best, right? Well, quality pays. Canon technology gives IXUS 300 a 2.11-megapixel CCD, able to record a 1600x1200 pixel image. That's the resolution you need for a high-quality 8"x10" (20cm x 25cm) print. A new design for the ultra-compact and fully retractable zoom lens offers high resolution and low distortion. Used with the IC processing signal, the digital zoom smoothly engages to fill your frame with detailed, clear images up to the equivalent of a 265mm lens for 35mm format cameras. There's a macro mode, too; so, take pictures from far and wide, tight and close. Connect the cable to the optional Canon CP-10 Photo printer, put IXUS 300 into direct print mode, and you're there. With a resolution of 300x300 dpi, you'll get brilliant credit card-sized prints. Pick your preferred print settings, and you'll have the prints in mere seconds. With the new digital signal processing IC working in conjunction with the primary color filter, Digital IXUS 300 ensures that each photo shows its true colors, in every shooting situation. Canon advances in technology provide improvements governing optimum exposure, resolution, and color temperatures to virtually guarantee accuracy with the AE control system and various white balance settings. Different situations demand their own needs. IXUS 300 offers nine different image quality combinations with three pixel modes and three compression ratios. For best results, select superfine mode to lower the compression ratio and hold onto image detail sufficient for business purposes. Sometimes you want more than one shot. Record a movie clip to see every frame of that game-winning goal or basket. IXUS 300 can record movie at 20 frames per second in three pixel modes, for up to 30 seconds, maximum. They even have sound, and are saved as AVI files for you to keep. Play it back on your LCD monitor, your TV or your computer.
