Canon USA Powershot S400 Digital Camera Camera

WHAT'S HOT: Although Canon's PowerShot S400 is no longer the smallest model on the block, it still holds its own as the granddaddy of pocket-size cameras. The Digital Elph feels very solid--if a little heavy--and sports an elegant stainless steel body....

The S400 provides impressive image quality, delivering bright, crisp snapshots in our lab tests. Colors were vibrant and details were relatively sharp. However, our indoor still life tended to be a little dark in spots

The S400 is a premium choice for styleconscious shutterbugs who want a terrific point-andshoot and little to no manual controls.

Highly Recommended!

Canon PowerShot S400

Canon announced the ultra-compact four megapixel, three times optical zoom PowerShot S400 (AKA. Digital IXUS 400) just a few days before PMA 2003. The PowerShot S400 is the latest in line of Canon's ultra-compact PowerShot series, this camera packs a...

Excellent resolution, best of the ultra-compact four megapixel class, Good metering, good tonal balance which maintains shadow detail, Good natural light white balance, strong and balanced colors, Four megapixels, three times zoom in the same size case...

Annoyingly small and stiff mode dial, Noise at ISO 100 worse than the competition *, Lens can be soft at maximum aperture, especially in corners, AF assist lamp didn't produce significantly better results in our test, Average macro performance...

The PowerShot S400 is a stylish ultra-compact, it follows in the tradition of previous ultra-compact PowerShots in being functional, of very good build quality and producing excellent images.

Canon PowerShot S400 Digital Elph

Well designed; very good image quality; solid performance; excellent red-eye reduction.

Few manual controls; no 640x480 movie mode.

The S400 offers great image quality and performance in a pocket-size package. Don't look for manual controls, though.

Digital Cameras - Canon PowerShot S400 Digital ELPH Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications

The quality, versatility, and image quality of Canon's Digital ELPH series has impressed me from the start, and the 4.0-megapixel S400 holds true to that tradition. The camera's tiny size makes it a worthy travel companion, and the range of features...

Canon PowerShot S400 Digital ELPH

The small 4/5 Megapixel camera arena continues to grow in 2003. How does the S400 hold up against the competition? Find out now

Very good photo quality ; Small, beautiful metal body ; Super fast performance ; Has an AF illuminator lamp ; Support for underwater case ; Surprising performance in redeye test ; Very good playback mode

Wish it had more manual controls ; While nice, movie mode not as nice as other Canon models ; Poorly placed microphone (watch your fingers) ; Flimsy plastic door over CF slot

The S400 is what some call a "boutique" camera -- lots of style, at the expense of manual controls. The S45 (read our review) performs just as well and offers full manual controls, but (as noted earlier) it's bigger and heavier. So if you're someone...

Canon PowerShot S400 Digital Camera (Canon-8392A001)

As a small form factor the camera is available whereas the more technologically proficient is still sitting at home.Viewing in bright sunlight is hopeless but the view finder saves the day.Sometimes there is a delay of 10 second upon pressing the...

Small size means it's in my pocket. Great close ups as well as the 12x telephoto

In my pocket sweat condenses in the camera. Switching to a case on my belt solved that problem. The flash can be too strong for indoor shots. The close ups can be slow as the data are transferred to the memory card
