Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS

Shaken, Not Blurred

Optical stabilizer solidifies hand-held photos. Small range-finder eyepiece frames shots in exceptionally bright conditions. Bold, 2.5-inch LCD clearly shows your aim. Great macro mode

Fine details often muddled together. Moderate background noise in indoor, flash photos

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH

A fast and attractive camera that offers pretty good image quality for the price.

Classy, stylish design ; Fast start-up and shot-to-shot ; Good image stabilization

Slightly dull colors ; Couldn't keep up with fast action shots ; Some softness at corners of images

Like the many Canon Digital ELPH’s before it, the SD1100 is an attractive pocket camera that's easy to use and feels great in your hand. Though its image quality was only slightly above average, the SD1100 consistently produced appealing images on our...

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital Camera

Sleek design, superb image capability and intuitive controls make the SD1100 a solid buy.

Fast start-up, focus, and shutter ; Maximum aperture of f2.8

Lacks a true wide-angle lens ; Hard-to-find manual features

Despite a few minor issues, the SD1100 IS is a joy to use, and it produces superb photos for its class. If you can get by without a truly wide-angle lens, you'll be more than happy with the SD1100 IS. And, man, does it look cool

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS

Like its Digital Elph predecessors, Canon's new PowerShot SD1100 IS looks and feels great. Its price tag of about $249 puts squarely in the realm of midrange point-and-shoots, but its robust features--including Canon's fast DIGIC III processor, a...

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS

Another year, another ELPH. Canon constantly churns out new models in its Digital ELPH line-up and the latest is the SD1100 IS, a $249 USD 8-megapixel point-and-shoot model with a 3x zoom and optical image stabilization. This compact camera is...

8-megapixel; 3x zoom; OIS

Limited manual adjustments

This really is an aim-and-forget camera so if going manual in any way is on your plate, look elsewhere.

Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS (Gold)

One of the most popular cameras of last year wasn't a big fancy digital SLR, or a pimped-out superzoom, it was Canon's somewhat understated Powershot SD1000 . Its combination of a nice, though not extravagant, feature set, small size, and relatively...

Great image quality; minimal shutter lag; speedy performance; optical image stabilization; face detection; optical viewfinder.

No manual exposure controls; slow flash recycle time.

Canon's SD1100 IS adds optical image stabilization to last year's hit SD1000, while delivering just as impressive image quality.

Powershot SD1100 IS

The Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS follows up on its predecessor by adding optical image stabilization and a little more resolution, bringing the total to 8 megapixels. The SD1100 also aims to be trendier than before with its compact body and availability...

Trendy, compact camera ; Wide views on LCD ; Image stabilization ; Cool picture effects ; Fast, accurate face detection

Weak, poorly-placed flash ; Tiny controls ; Poor handling ; Slow 1.3 fps Burst mode ; Flimsy battery door

Canon Powershot SD1100 IS

How do you make the perfect follow-up to an already excellent camera? It ain't easy. Our current Editors' Choice winner, the Canon PowerShot SD1000 has a new sibling in the SD1100 IS, and not much has changed in the newcomer. The SD1100 IS ups the...

Little noise at high ISO settings. Image stabilization. Optical viewfinder. Antireflective LCD

Function button is flat and hard to find by touch. Wide-angle lens is not as wide as the SD1000's ; Watch the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Video Review

The PowerShot SD1100 IS adds a few new features to its Editors' Choice predecessor, but the SD1000 still can't be beat in terms of image quality and shooting flexibility.

Canon SD1100 IS Digital ELPH (IXUS 80 IS) Concise Review

The Canon Powershot SD1100 IS (IXUS 80 IS in Europe) is as fresh off the Canon engineers' drawing boards as it can get. It was announced only a few weeks ago for the PMA trade show in Las Vegas and already has made its way into the basement vault which...

Very compact body, Decent edge-to-edge sharpness, Clean results at low ISO settings with bright, print-friendly color 'straight out of the box', Accurate and reasonably quick focus (although slightly slower in low light), Good responsiveness and...

Battery life when using LCD not brilliant, Slightly underpowered built-in flash, Little manual control, Poor Auto White Balance performance under artificial light, Pretty noisy at any sensitivity above ISO 200 (decent detail retention though), Some...

Canon Powershot SD1100 IS

Adding to the camera's versatility is a sharp and fast 3x optical zoom lens (38-114mm equivalent opening up to f/2.8 at wide-angle settings and f/4.9 at telephoto settings). The SD1100 IS also features Canon's advanced Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)...
