PowerShot SD900

This 10-megapixel point-and-shoot camera is compact but compromised.

Compact and lightweight. Easy to use ; Disappointing image quality when using ISO settings above ISO 80

Disappointing image quality when using ISO settings above ISO 80

When you just want a camera you can whip out and snap-snap-snap, you'll be happy with the PowerShot SD900. If you're nitpicky about image quality, consider a 5- or 6-megapixel point-and-shoot. You'll save a few bucks and be less likely to encounter...

Canon Ixus 900Ti

The IXUS series by Canon are some really good cameras, but it's purely hit or miss. For instance, the Ixus i7 was a true performer, although the Digital IXUS 60 was really low on performance. The 900Ti, in the current review, features excellent build...

The lack of clear details and digital noise mar the otherwise lively images, which is the biggest negative factor in the 900Ti. Sadly these are also features that prevent it from being a true photographer's camera. At it's street price of around Rs....

Powershot SD900 Digital Camera

The PowerShot SD900 is among Canon's pricier Digital Elph compact cameras. For $450 (as of February 15, 2007), you get a tough, attractive titanium body equipped with a generous 10-megapixel sensor, though the camera does lack a few of the high-end...

Accurate portraits using face detection Takes very sharp photos

Lacks image stabilization High price

If you're looking for the greatest number of megapixels, the SD900 won't disappoint. Until Canon adds image stabilization and a longer zoom, this should remain one of the best compact point-and-shoots around

Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital Elph

This is an above-average ultracompact, but Canon needs to give consumers more.

Excellent image quality. Very good performance. Face-detection features worked well. Most high ISO settings were very clean. Excellent burst mode.

Canon needs to add more user-friendly menus. Video quality was mediocre. Not enough manual capabilities. Some flash shots were uneven. A bit pricey.

Recommended!

Canon PowerShot SD900

Announced (along with a handful of other PowerShots) just before Photokina in September 2006, the SD900 (we'll call it this throughout the review - see below for EU/Japanese names) sits at the top of Canon's successful ELPH / IXUS range and offers the...

Excellent resolution, good color, Clean, detailed results at lower ISO settings - ISO 400 usable, with fairly light-handed noise reduction, Reliable exposure system, Fast and accurate focus, Responsive operation, Excellent user interface, easy to use,...

AiAF focus a bit unpredictable - turn it off, Very little manual control, ISO 800 and 1600 of limited use, Some smearing of low contrast fine detail at anything over base ISO, Occasional purple fringing, Still no exposure information for shutter speeds...

Camera manufacturers have been producing expensive special-edition titanium-bodied SLRs for years; the combination of durability, strength and lightness (titanium has the highest strength to weight ratio of any metal) offers some real benefits for...

Canon PowerShot SD900

The SD900 offers an elegant design, takes decent pictures, and captures high-res video, but is it worth the high price tag?

Small and sturdy ; Good image quality ; Includes viewfinder

Prone to smudges and fingerprints ; Expensive

Canon Powershot SD900 Digital ELPH

The 10.0 megapixel PowerShot SD900 and the 7.1 megapixel PowerShot SD800 IS Digital ELPHs take the marriage of style and substance to a new level, by offering an array of user-friendly features along with faster response time and a new face detection...

Canon PowerShot SD900 reviewed

CNET has just published one of the first reviews that we've seen of the Canon PowerShot SD900, the recently-released 10-megapixel camera that comes with a 3x zoom and a 2.5-inch screen. The site gave the SD900 a respectable 7.6 (out of 10) rating, but...

Canon PowerShot SD900

While the SD900 is heavy on style, like most of the SD series, it's pretty light on features. You can adjust the white balance, the exposure compensation, the ISO sensitivity, and the metering settings, but in true point-and-shoot fashion, most...

Small and comfortable; responsive performance; decent images.

Few manual controls; noticeable fringing.

A very good compact camera, the 10-megapixel Canon PowerShot SD900 nonetheless falls short of its faster, more full-featured, albeit lower-resolution competitors.

Highly Recommended!

Digital IXUS 900 Ti Review

The Canon Digital IXUS 900 Ti is currently the flagship model of the Digital IXUS range (also called the Canon Powershot SD900 in the USA). Finished in precision-crafted titanium and retaining the Perpetual Curve design of its predecessors, the Canon...

There's so little to criticise on Canon compact cameras these days it's almost getting boring, and the Canon Digital IXUS 900 Ti is no different. It looks good, responds well, is for the most part easy and intuitive to use, and, thanks to that...

Product Specifications

With its sinuous perpetual curve design elegantly clad in pure titanium, the PowerShot SD900 ELPH is visually arresting. But what's inside is just as impressive: a powerful 10.0 megapixel CCD, 3x optical zoom and newly developed DIGIC III Image Processor. Top-level functionality puts you at the forefront of digital technology, with expanded low-light shooting capability, a built-in digital teleconverter, and futuristic Face Detection technology for incredible group shots.
