Canon PowerShot S110 (Black)

Canon's PowerShot S series has previously consisted of compact cameras for enthusiasts, but the PowerShot S110 is less so, despite its fast-ish lens, support for raw format, and manual exposure controls. Canon made a few changes in its replacement for...

The Canon PowerShot S110 has better autofocus than its predecessor while maintaining good-to-excellent photo quality.

A not-very-impressive implementation of the new wireless connectivity features and still-sluggish image processing weigh down the camera.

Nice photo quality, improved autofocus performance, and a very compact design make the Canon PowerShot S110 a solid option if you're looking for something between a point-and-shoot and an enthusiast compact. But if you can find them cheaper, the S100...

Canon PowerShot S110

The Canon PowerShot S110 ($449.99 direct) is the follow-up to last year's Editors' Choice Canon PowerShot S100 , a point-and-shoot that was, at the time, the best pocket camera on the market. In the time between camera releases other manufacturers have...

Sharp lens. Good quality at high ISOs. Speedy performance. Integrated Wi-Fi. Raw shooting support

Expensive. No GPS. Lacks hot shoe or EVF option. 1080p video limited to 24fps. Wireless setup can be difficult

The compact, sharp-shooting Canon PowerShot S110 is very similar to its Editors' Choice-winning predecessor, but it's no longer the class leader.

The Canon PowerShot S110 is the next generation digital ELPH, it retains many of the features that made the PowerShot S100 the most popular digital still camera in the market including its ultra-compact and elegant stainless steel design. The PowerShot S1

Canon PowerShot S110 (Digital IXUS v)

Canon have taken the popular Digital IXUS and added a"v" for video. The Digital IXUS v (known as the S110 DigitalElph in the US and IXY Digital 200 in Japan) builds on the original DigitalIXUS platform by firsty adding the ability to take short movie...

Good resolution, fairly sharp images, hardly any chromatic aberrations ; White balance works well enough, presets are very good ; Ultra-compact size, light weight ; Sleek stainless steel body, stylish looks ; Superb build quality ; Very quick...

Lens distortion / softness near edges ; Blues are dull ; Average macro ability ; Flash doesn't have the power or the cover wide angle shots ; Edge positioned tripod mount (at least it's metal!) ; Limited zoom (35 - 70 mm) ; Auto White balance doesn't...

The IXUS v is ultimately pocketable, it's tiny proportionsdisguise it's ability to produce excellent photographs. The Digital IXUSdesign is so small it's almost impossible to tell it apart from one ofthe equally tiny IXUS APS cameras. This camera, just...

Canon PowerShot S110

The Canon PowerShot S110 is an advanced compact aimed at enthusiasts looking for DSLR levels of control and performance from something more pocketable. It replaces the S100 in the PowerShot range retaining the same 12.1 Megapixel sensor and 24-120mm...

Smaller than other high-end compacts ; 3 inch 461k dot touch-screen ; Wi-fi network and smartphone connectivity ; 5x 24-120mm zoom

Poor battery life ; Lacks movie PASM modes ; No built-in GPS ; Lacklustre continuous shooting

Anyone who was worried that the successor to the S100 would sacrifice its diminutive dimensions to add more of the things that get enthuiasts excited, such as a hot shoe, accessory port, brighter, longer lens or a flip out LCD screen, can relax. The...

Canon PowerShot S110 Digital ELPH

The PowerShot S110 is known as the Digital IXUS V in some regions

Looks good and very portable ; Good photo quality ; Super-fast processing speeds ; Movie mode with sound, as large as 640 x 480 ; Good bundle included with camera (including software) ; Available underwater case

On the pricey side for a 2 Megapixel camera ; Movie recording times too short, zoom cannot be used ; No manual controls

The PowerShot S110 Digital ELPH isn't going to make current S100 owners run out and upgrade. But if you're shopping for a very small and capable point-and-shoot digital camera, take a close look at the S110. The biggest selling point for the S110 is...

Perfect beginner's Ixus - fabulous images, robust construction, reasonably cheap second-hand. I still get great shots with the Ixus v and heartily recommend this and the v2 to people who don't know what they want but want to get started properly. The...

Product Specifications

Canon PowerShot S110 is equipped with a 2.11-megapixel CCD, capturing images with a high resolution of up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. A primary color on-chip filter, superior to a complementary color filter in terms of color reproduction, is used in PowerShot S110. New digital signal processing IC, developed by Canon, improves the resolution and luminance S/N ratio to achieve greater sensitivity while retaining the color reproduction benefits of a primary color filter. This IC features high performance and sophisticated functions in a compact package. It also consumes little power and greatly contributes to the downsizing of the camera. The shiny body exterior uses a special stainless-steel alloy with bright surface finish. All the functions of a digital camera, including a retractable, optical 2x zoom lens, a flash unit, and an LCD monitor, are compressed into the tiny body, with all areas made as small as possible to attain a compact body size, exactly the same as PowerShot S100 "Digital ELPH". PowerShot S110 includes a 2x optical zoom lens that covers from 35mm (wide angle) to 70mm (telephoto), in terms of 35mm film. The F2.8-4.0 aperture is amazing for such a compact, high-quality lens. PowerShot S110 uses a true digital zoom system that gradually reduces the CCD's reading area towards the center of the picture area up to a maximum magnification of 2.5x. As a result, a uniform zoom effect is obtained. Besides the shooting interval of approximately 1.7 seconds and shooting continuously at approximately 2.5 images per second with image quality set to Large/Fine, PowerShot S110 can record VGA sized (640 x 480 pixels) movies with sound at the exceptional rate of 20 frames per second due to the high performance of its new digital signal processing IC. PowerShot S110 has 9 image quality settings, and now you can change image quality settings even in the Auto shooting mode. Resolution and compression settings can be selected independently using the menu function of the LCD monitor. PowerShot S110 employs Artificial Intelligence Autofocus (AiAF) technology, which uses a broad metering field to calculate the focal distance with high precision. AiAF of this camera uses three different focus points, and selects from the three focus results the point that will assure the best focus on the target. It delivers a crisp focus even when the photographic subject is off-center. With a new digital signal processing IC and LCD consuming little power, and other technologies for power saving, PowerShot S110 consumes so little power that it can operate on a small Li-Ion battery. The camera has a multi-purpose AV/USB interface terminal that can be used to connect it to either a compatible TV or a personal computer by using the cables that are supplied as standard accessories.
