The entry-level Canon PowerShot A1000 IS is low-cost without being lousy.
The Canon PowerShot A1000 IS is not an exciting pocket camera by any means...
In round two of our PowerShot A model reviews, we bring you our full write-up on Canon's latest budget shooter, the Canon PowerShot A1000 IS.
Compact ; Good lens ; Optical viewfinder ; The A-series handgrip returns
No manual exposure capability ; Battery life could be better ; Auto white balance about par for the course
IS. On the surface the A1000 IS shows a noticeable family resemblance to earlier A series digicams, but under the hood it presents a major departure from the basic design philosophy that defined all of its predecessors
At $199 (list), the PowerShot A1000 IS is the least-expensive 10-megapixel camera Canon has released this year. Despite its low price, it's a great pick for those who prefer to shoot using auto settings exclusively. In Easy Mode, the camera delivers ...
Great image quality for the price. Handy "Easy Mode" prevents you from accidentally changing settings. Fast recycle/boot-up times with little shutter lag
Bulky. Viewfinder clips part of your images. High amounts of noise even at low ISO settings
Canon's PowerShot A1000 IS excels at the basicsdead-simple "Easy Mode" shooting, sharp images, and speedy performanceall at a very palatable price.

I liked the way theCanon A 1000 IS camera takes pictures
The camera keeps locking up the lens which causes a lens restart error
While nothing new, the Powershot A1000 IS is ...
Uses AA batteries, good pic quality, Image Stablization, Face Reconition, Easy to use, "battery bulge" helps grip, standard SD/SDHC cards, resonably quiet
Slightly large, bulge may be annoying but necessary for AA batteries, included 32MB SD card is a joke, you can only get 7 pics on it at highest res, no HD video, not much manual controls, hard2use batt drawer
I recommend this camera highly.
I bought this camera at Microcenter for under $100.00 (open box). Best digital camera for the price I have ever owned. It does has a viewfinder, that is rare in this type of camera. I have a 32gb sdhc card which I use the camera as a camcorder. 4hrs
Batteries didn't last long. Now, I have rechargables which solved the problem
The sleek design of the PowerShot A1000 IS is as refreshing as a breath of fresh air. Better still, its high-end features make everything simple: there's the 10.0-megapixel resolution and powerful 4x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilizer for sharpness along the full zoom range. A DIGIC III Image Processor with Canon face detection automatically lets every face stand out. Easy mode and easy playback make this camera a marvel of simplicity.
