Canon PowerShot A1400

Canon's PowerShot A1400 is a capable, easy-to-use point-and-shoot camera that can capture sharp images in good light. And it'll only set you back about $100.

Inexpensive. Solid construction. Sharp photos. Optical viewfinder. 5x zoom lens. Uses AA batteries. On-screen help mode.

Slow to start and shoot. No optical image stabilization. Noisy images. No optical zoom during video capture.

Performance and Conclusions The A1400 isn't a speedy camera, but its performance isn't out of line compared with others in its price range. It starts and shoots in 2.1 seconds, records a very reasonable 0.2-second shutter lag, and rattles off a photo...

Canon PowerShot A1400 Review

The PowerShot A1400 is a basic point-n-shoot camera that offers a very appealing price of about $100. With a capable Auto mode, 5x zoom, and AA power source, it is well suited for beginners, or anyone else that's looking for an inexpensive, compact...

5X zoom lens offers 28mm wide angle ; Eco mode saves battery life ; Affordable and compact ; Attractive macro shots in day light ; AA batteries are easy to find ; Good battery life ; Help system is good for beginners ; Optical viewfinder

Subpar image quality ; Slow burst mode at full resolution ; Optical zoom not active in movie mode ; Low-resolution LCD has limited viewing angle ; Poor low light performance

Nice all-around point and shoot

Picked this up for my mom, to replace an old PowerShot A520 (that one's still working great, but the early MMD/SD cards it used are getting harder to find now). The A1400 certainly has better specs and capacity than the old model, while the controls...

Similar nice build quality to earlier PowerShots, familiar interface, optical viewfinder, discreet body, quiet, and yes, it takes nice pictures

flash recharge feels a little on the slow side, good enough for our needs but be aware

Very nice camera

This is a very nice camera for $85 when it was on sell at Newegg. It is small and lightweight. It has alot of functions on it, most I still have to experiment with. The "steady" shot is a must with a camera. It captures shots well while in motion. The...

Camera did not come with memory card. But I knew this when I bought this camera, so no eggs off on this review ; Not a con----I purchased a 8gb memory card when I bought this camera, both from newegg. That's about 2100 pics that the card will hold

This is one of the easiest cameras I have ever used. It uses AA batteries. Photos and video comes out beautiful. The price is it extremely reasonable. I love it.

Canon should make cameras like this again

It's unfortunate that Canon (and every other company) has stopped making a camera with a viewfinder. So many people want a digital camera with viewfinder - it's impossible to see in sunlight without it. This camera does an excellent job. Being able to...

for children only ...

I've purchased this camera as an upgrade for my old (and still unbeaten) Canon Power Shot A560 (7.1 Mega Pixels). I've taken over 5000 pictures (family and work) with the good old A560. Now that I've tested few other new cameras it this same class, I...
