Canon PowerShot A620 Digital Camera Review

The Canon PowerShot A620 is a member of Canon's A-series, one of the most popular series of digital cameras. The A-series offers easy to use models with a significant amount of manual control. The 7.1 megapixel A620 stays true to its A-series roots...

- Manual controls at a low price - Spot meter linked to AF point (movable) - LCD flips and rotates to almost any angle - Alkaline AA batteries last a while - Lots of flash options - Custom self-timer keeps family picture time to a minimum - Live...

- Inaccurate and blurry optical viewfinder - LCD solarizes easily - Insensitive zoom toggle - Noisy zoom lens - Heavy - No zoom in movie mode - Poor metering and AF in movie mode - Slow burst mode

The A620 has big shoes to fill; the 4 megapixel A520 was Canon's top seller of 2005. It provided bread-and-butter basics and manual functionality at a really good price. The Canon A620 adds a few more megapixels and a few more features; it comes with...

Canon PowerShot A620

In August 2005 Canon announced two new A series digital cameras, the five megapixel A610 and seven megapixel A620 on test here. Both cameras replace the long-running, and very popular A95, and join the A520 as affordable, well-specified compacts for...

Good resolution, very clean results ; Very natural color ; Good edge-to-edge sharpness ; Useful 35-140mm equiv. 4x zoom lens with decent F2.8-4.1 max aperture range ; Reliable - and much faster - focus ; Sophisticated and comprehensive range of...

Clipped highlights and occasional exposure problems in bright, contrasty conditions ; Focusing at tele end in low light can hunt ; Zoom is not very smooth - only 7 steps from wide to tele ; No ISO button ; Images slightly soft, but they sharpen up well...

The PowerShot A95 was one of the most successful 5MP compacts due to its compelling combination of features, image quality and value for money. But it was not a camera without problems - mainly performance and speed issues, most of which we - and all...

Canon PowerShot A620

Excellent feature set for its class; great image quality; easy to use.

Flimsy covers for SD slot, as well as DC and A/V connectors; center Function button is a little stiff; not as fast as some competitors.

The Canon PowerShot A620's above-average feature set and great photo quality should make it as popular as the A95.

Digital Cameras - Canon PowerShot A620 Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications

Canon's PowerShot line of digital cameras have always been big favorites of IR readers, valued for their user-friendly design, excellent photo characteristics, and good build quality. The Canon PowerShot A620 is an estimable addition at the top of that...

Excellent value for the money, Bright, attractive color that stops short of seeming overdone, Good skin tones, Auto white balance handles a wide range of lighting well, Better than average exposure accuracy, Good lens, generally low distortion and...

Very inaccurate optical viewfinder, Contrast is a little high, tends to lose highlight and shadow detail under harsh lighting, Flash coverage at maximum wide angle is a little uneven, Some users may prefer lower color saturation, Dual Basic/Advanced...

Canon PowerShot A620

The PowerShot A95 (and the A80 before it) were huge sellers for Canon. Is the PowerShot A620 a worthy successor? Find out in our review

Excellent photo quality ; Full manual controls ; Flip-out, rotating LCD display; LCD visible in low light ; Impressive performance ; AF-assist lamp ; Very good movie and continuous shooting features (with appropriate memory card) ; Excellent battery...

Redeye ; ISO 400 doesn't seem to be usable ; No rechargeable batteries included ; No diopter correction knob; plastic tripod mount

I've pretty much slipped all of my complaints into the preceding paragraphs, which is great news for the A620. This is one of the best cameras in its class, offering something for just about everyone, from beginner to enthusiast. If you want a midsized...
