Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS (Black)

The PowerShot SD1400 IS is a bit of a puzzler. It's an attractive, lightweight ultracompact point-and-shoot nearly identical to 2009's SD940 IS , using the same 28mm-equivalent wide-angle lens with a 4x zoom and 2.7-inch LCD. The only major tweak is a...

Tiny, attractive design; well-priced.

No marked improvements from previous model.

The PowerShot SD1400 IS is another stylish ultracompact from Canon with features and performance that are stuck in the past.

Best cheap digital camera with HD video

The Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS is just about the size of a credit card and only 0.7 inches thick, which may be its biggest appeal, reviewers say. The tiny camera packs a big punch when it comes to photo quality and features, but when compared...

Consistently good image quality, hD video capabilities, small, sleek design, sturdy build

Limited manual controls, slow continuous shooting, small, flat control buttons, no optical zoom in video mode

Canon IXUS 130 / PowerShot SD1400 IS

Like its predecessor, the IXUS 130 / SD1400 IS packs 720p HD movies, scene recognition and an HDMI port into its tiny body, but this year the major enhancements (beyond a slightly slimmer body) include a broader 4x zoom range which usefully starts...

Very slim and stylish body; looks and feels great ; 4x stabilised zoom with 28mm wide coverage ; Foolproof Auto with scene detection ; 720p HD video and HDMI output

Pointlessly slow continuous shooting speed ; Cannot optically zoom while filming ; Optical viewfinder of earlier model missing ; Face, smile and wink timers in strange location

Canon's IXUS 130 / SD1400 IS improves upon its already desirable predecessor with a broader and wider zoom lens, enhanced Auto mode, and a series of clever self-timers triggered by a face, smile or wink. The screen's also slightly bigger than before...

Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS Review

The Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS looks very familiar.

Compact ; Good build quality ; Very good images

Limited optical zoom ; No aperture/shutter control ; Some purple fringing

Image quality is very good through 200 ISO, with some softness present at 400 ISO that gradually increased through 800 ISO and 1600 ISO. Canon has clearly decided that aggressive noise reduction resulting in softer photos is preferable to minimal noise...

Amazing P&S Digital Camera for the Average User

Pros Summary: Picture quality - I am very impressed with this camera picture quality. No it's not jaw dropping results. But it is far better then other camera I have used in the past. Only about 16% of the pictures I took had to be deleted to do...

Great all around picture quality. Great daytime video shooting. Sleek. Long battery life. Amazing zoom

Not the best for shooting video in low-light. Slow process between pictures (unable to do shot-by-shot). HDMI output/USB door is annoying

AMAZING! but...

FANTASTIC shutter speed and processing speed if you use a professional class SDHC card (I use PNY class 10 16GB...works AMAZINGLY FAST but no 4 hours of HD video). I hope these guys review these cameras using professional class SDHC cards because they...

Unique Canon lens (somethin' about those lenses), packed with features like miniature mode and color select isolation. Ability to handle professional class SDHC cards (even class 10)

For HD video (720p / 1280 pc pixels) you can only record 09:59 minutes at a time...then the camera stops recording. YOU MUST MUST MUST use professional class SDHC cards for HD recording, otherwise you will get issues with audio sync

Great camera, for 6 months

Like many Canons, out camera started with the lens error issue. Too expensive to repair, no fix tips have worked. Spent $200 for six months use, not a good value.

Woderful, when it worked

Lens error, camera junk now

"OMG - one year, thats all this thing lasted."

Good for a disposible camrea if spending 159+ is disposable. Works for a while, then gets cranky first, then stops all togather after about a year of not heavy use. Keep this thing away from kids, chocolate, sand, wind, crowds, mist, sunlight, flowers,...

So SAD, after reading awsome reviews, this camera just is not tough enough for regular users. Old maids, wimps, and tea-toters enjoy, but if you plan to use this thing for a vacation, or wedding - FORGET IT! What a dismal failure.

While the atractivly small size and minimalist frame are attractive, there is no staying power for my use. Good quality in the pictures, bad design of the lens cover, and barrel. Dont waste your money. Try something with a real cover or sturdy design.
