Canon Powershot SX10 IS

Zoom levels are getting ridiculously high these days in consumer cameras and I couldn't be happier. While anything that supports 10X optical zoom and above can be technically classified as a superzoom camera, manufacturers are pushing the envelope with...

Rs. 25,000 seems a bit too high for a non-DLSR digital camera, but considering that this is one camera that does it all, you do get your money's worth. Excellent image quality, fast performance, and features that give you a major advantage in your...

Canon PowerShot SX10 IS

Though a 20x zoom lens may be yawn-inspiring in these days of 24x and 26x lenses, I think 20x is plenty, and perhaps even a bit too long given the difficulty of making a good lens that can cover so broad a focal range as the Canon SX10 IS' 28-560mm...

Speedy performance with solid battery life; articulating LCD; comfortable shooting design; can zoom during movie capture

No HD movie capture or raw support; a few annoying design quirks; frustratingly narrow lens aperture at maximum zoom

A nice evolution of the megazoom, the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS delivers some improvements over its predecessor and provides an attractive option for megazoom shooters.

Canon PowerShot SX10 IS Point-and-Shoot Review

20x optical zoom lens ; Swivel LCD viewfinder

No RAW mode ; Menu dial is clumsy and fussy

The SX10 IS--lightweight, with a terrific zoom and decent video--is a great megazoom to carry around.

Canon PowerShot SX10 IS Digital Camera First Impressions Review

The Canon PowerShot SX10 IS is a sophisticated 10-megapixel point-and-shoot with a huge optical zoom range (out to 20x) that would be an arm-breaking burden on a digital SLR or 35mm camera, but in this size is a portable pleasure for grabbing far away...

- 20x optical zoom - Good manual controls - Smaller than an SLR

- Bulkier than other point-and-shoots. - Expensive - Not as fast as similarly priced SLRs

The Canon PowerShot SX10 IS is a high-end consumer oriented camera that will appeal to amateur nature photographers or anyone else who's interested in getting close-ups without getting too close, thanks to an impressive 20x optical zoom lens. The...

Canon PowerShot SX10 IS

What sets this camera apart from others is that it takes excellent pictures at a reasonable price. The camera is fairly compact, which is great for the on-the-go hobbyist or beginner professional. It also works as a nice backup camera if your primary...

Canon PowerShot SX10 IS Review

Following on from last year's chunky S5 model for, at the time of writing, some 50 less (a UK SRP of just 359), the new DSLR-styled 10-megapixel Canon PowerShot SX10 IS looks like even more of an attractive proposition. Especially when you consider the...

A sturdy plastic brick of a camera, the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS builds on its S5 predecessor chiefly with that bigger and better lens range, though ease of use has also been improved. What's been kept is the tilt-and-swivel LCD and dedicated record...

Canon PowerShot SX10 IS Digital Camera - First Shots - The Imaging Resource!

Canon's PowerShot SX10 IS digital camera replaces the company's previous PowerShot S5 IS model, and indeed both cameras share very similar styling cues. The Canon SX10 has grown a third of an inch or more larger than the S5 in all directions though....

The standard ISO sensitivity range offered by the Canon SX10 is unchanged from the S5, with a minimum of ISO 80 through to a maximum of ISO 1,600. A new high sensitivity scene mode allows this to be boosted to a maximum of ISO 3,200, however. Available...

, which is quite similar to the SX10, with the main differences being a larger LCD, faster continuous shooting, a 1080p movie mode, and an HDMI port. Why this model wasn't brought over to the States is unclear

Very good photo quality (in good light) ; Whopping 20X optical zoom lens, with a 28 - 560 mm range ; Optical image stabilization ; Generally snappy performance ; Flip-out, rotating 2.5" LCD display; good low light visibility ; Full manual controls,...

Noise reduction visible at ISO 80; noticeable detail loss above ISO 200 in low light, ISO 400 in good light ; Occasional purple fringing ; Low light focusing could be better ; Doesn't support filters and conversion lenses like its predecessor ; Easy to...

All things considered, the PowerShot SX10 is a very good super zoom camera, and a worthy successor to the PowerShot S5. Sure, it could do a few things better, but even so, the PowerShot SX10 is one of the best big zoom cameras you can find.

Product Specifications

Whether the action is fast or slow, close up or far away, you'll always get the shot you want with the PowerShot SX10 IS. This camera puts you on the cutting edge of advanced technology, with an incredibly powerful 20x optical zoom, 10-megapixel resolution, and DIGIC 4 image processor for high-performance face and motion detection. The PowerShot SX10 IS is equipped with a 20x optical zoom lens with a focal length of 5.0-100mm that allows you to shoot any scene from wide-angle to telephoto. The camera uses a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) for high-speed, quiet, energy-efficient lens movement with precise control. Focal length is conveniently indicated on the lens barrel. The lens is optimized to fully exploit its zoom length and wide shooting angle in concert with the camera's high 10.0-megapixel resolution. UD glass effectively suppresses chromatic aberration, while enhanced negative refractive power ensures that distortion at the wide-angle is also corrected. Further aberration is controlled with the inclusion of a double-sided aspherical glass-molded lens and ultra-high refraction index lens. The SX10 IS is equipped with Canon's acclaimed optical image stabilizer technology that automatically detects and corrects camera shake - one of the leading causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. Even when zoomed in, you can get the steady, crisp, brilliant images you'll be proud to shoot and share. And Canon's optical image stabilizer technology is convenient to use. It functions perfectly with or without a flash.
