Canon PowerShot SX160 IS Review

The 16 megapixel PowerShot SX160 IS bridges the gap between Canon's entry-level point-and-shoot digital cameras and the premium travel compacts. The former, lacking a large zoom range and full manual controls, are priced under Rs 10,000 and the travel...

The SX160 IS can shoot videos at 720p and using optical zoom while recording is also allowed. With the mode dial set to Movie, you can set the video resolution (1280 x 720 or 640 x 480) and add colour effects such as sepia, black and white, and...

Canon PowerShot SX160 IS Review

The PowerShot SX160 IS makes big promises with its bricklike form and extensive manual controls. But its sluggish burst shooting, slow-charging flash and middling performance in low light makes even its moderate price seem too high. The features are...

Powerful 16x zoom lens ; Wide 28mm angle ; Full manual control ; Many color effects in shooting mode ; Color effects can be applied in playback ; Macro AF can focus at 0.4 inch ; Can take stills in movie mode ; Dedicated movie button ; Thumb wheel aids...

Mediocre performance in low light ; Slow burst shooting ; Flash is slow to charge ; Autofocus could be faster ; Low battery life ; Low-resolution LCD ; Narrow LCD viewing angle pointing downward

Canon PowerShot SX160 IS (Black)

The Canon PowerShot SX160 IS is not for everyone. It's big and bulky. It doesn't have the best shooting performance or image quality. And it certainly doesn't have all the latest and greatest features found in many of Canon's higher-end PowerShots.

The Canon PowerShot SX160 IS has a large selection of shooting options from full manual to full auto; big, easy-to-press controls; and the convenience of AA batteries.

The SX160 IS will eat through alkaline batteries; shooting performance is good, but not fast; and picture quality drops off above ISO 400, so it's not a great choice for handheld low-light shots.

The Canon PowerShot SX160 IS is a good, inexpensive travel-zoom option for those wanting more control over results or who are just getting into photography and don't want to empty their wallets.

Canon PowerShot SX160 IS

Canon's highly successful SX150 IS gets a facelift with the SX160 IS, a model that keeps the AA batteries but upgrades just about everything else. The camera's zoom range has moved to 16x from 12x, the megapixel count from 14 to 16, and the body is a...

"Great camera. Horrible PC software."

This camera replaces our old A-610. We like that Canon cameras are very point-and-shoot friendly, yet allow custom settings as well. The SX-160 IS resolved tree foliage over a block away at maximum optical zoom. The image stabilization works well....

Good zoom range. Point and shoot works under a wide range of conditions. Many choices of manual settings that aren't difficult to find and use. Very clear pictures with adequate light. Using AA batteries we can carry a supply and keep on shooting.

Short battery life. Barely usable PC software.

"Excellent, light weight, point and shoot camera."

I've been a canon user for about 10 years (this is camera number 3, gave the others away...they all still work!). When I saw the zoom, focus, and image stabilization on this new model, I knew it was time for an upgrade. The only thing I would change...

Light-weight, easy to use, excellent zoom and focus. The light sensor allows for better non-flash pictures in low light. Great value. Does Macro even on Auto just by point of focus. Very versatile.

No optical view finder, large LCD screen uses batteries quickly, very bright flash.

"Best Available option in the Range"

In short, this is a good choice if you also want to shoot in manual modes. Manual mode is really Good and it justifies "Semi SLR" model.

1)Manual Mode : Most Obvious reason to buy this product.

1) Design could be better.

Not as advertised

Not only did these not come with memory cards, the batteries die after about an hour of use. I ordered 4 for my yearbook club and we are currently way behind due to these cameras.

battery life, no memory card
