Canon Powershot TX1

The TX1 looks ore like a really compact camcorder over a digital camera. But then again, you won't be too wrong in mistaking it for a camcorder since that's one of its primary functions too. Confusing? Let me begin at the beginning.

Though the camera has a lot of appealing features, such as its unique design and HD video recording, it just isn't good value at Rs 20,990.

Awkward Looks Kills the Fun

The PowerShot TX1 looks like it was assembled by a misanthrope. Its viewfinder juts awkwardly out of the camera's body, twisting to accommodate extreme angles

Images sport bright colors and sharp details, even in full 10X optical zoom shots. HD video quality matches stand-alone camcorders

Low-light shots look noisy and undefined. Tiny, 1.8-inch LCD. Buttons are hard to reach when shooting vertically

Canon Powershot TX1

The TX1's 10x optical zoom lens covers and extensive range (39mm -390mm equivalent), and Canon included its advanced optical image stabilization (OIS) system to help significantly reduce the blurring effects of camera shake that can occur at long zoom...

The "brain" of this new PowerShot camera is DIGIC III, the newest iteration of Canon's ultra-efficient (and proprietary) image processor. The new gold standard on all new Canon cameras, the DIGIC III image processor accounts for the camera's higher...

Canon USA Canon Powershot TX1 Camera

Though The Canon PowerShot TX1 resembles a miniature camcorder, it's best suited for still photography. You hold the TX1 vertically instead of horizontally, an odd orientation for a point-and-shoot camera. The design, while compact, comes at the hefty...

10X zoom and optical image stabilization ; Records high-definition video

Small LCD ; Short battery life

If you're already comfortable using a camcorder, the TX1 could be a good choice for taking still photos and short video clips. It's hard to imagine packing a 10X zoom into a smaller package. That small size, unfortunately, leaves you with a small LCD...

PowerShot TX1

The Canon PowerShot TX1 made waves in February as Canon's first attempt at a true hybrid digital camera-camcorder. The 7.1-megapixel TX1 borrows elements like image stabilization, stereo audio, a wind filter, and video editing from bigger cameras like...

Effective face detection ; Accurate preset and auto white balance ; Great image stabilization ; High definition video ; Stereo audio ; Compact, very portable

Poor handling ; Video displayed ghost-like motion artifacts ; Noisy video footage ; Inefficient Video codec ; Weak battery ; Top-heavy ; Tiny controls ; Lots of red eyes ; Useless flash

The Canon PowerShot TX1 is a hybrid camcorder/digital camera that secures a unique spot in the digital camera marketplace. It has the ability to snap 7.1-megapixel pictures as well as record high definition video. Hybrids marketed more as camcorders,...

Canon PowerShot TX1

If you're new to digital photography you may wish to read the DigitalPhotography Glossary before diving into this article (it may helpyou understand some of the terms used).

Good resolution, good edge-to-edge sharpness at most settings ; Surprisingly good output quality at lower ISO settings ; Very compact design and superb build quality ; Big 10x (39-390mm equivalent) zoom range in a very small camera ; Much improved...

Vertical design and control placement have a serious effect on handling ; Would be nicer if the lens started a little wider than 39mm equivalent ; Very difficult to hold for vertically-orientated shots ; Almost impossible to start/stop movies or zoom...

I have to confess I'm struggling to know who Canon is really aiming the TX1 at; it seems slightly confused as to what its primary function actually is. One the one hand it is, technically, the cheapest 'HDTV' camcorder on the market, and one that is...

Canon Powershot TX1

Canon, one of the most successful, trusted and innovative camera companies in the world, has released a super-compact, feature-rich, high-definition, widescreen and affordable digital camera/camcorder to the masses – the Canon Powershot TX1. While the...

Excellent video quality; 4:3 & 16:9 recording modes; sturdy feel

Odd shape & location of buttons; heavy for its small size

I found myself absolutely brimming with excitement over the Canon Powershot TX1.

Canon PowerShot TX1

Every now and again, a company will make a product just to turn some heads; sometimes this is called a statement piece. Usually these products sport unusual designs and fantastical feature sets. With its PowerShot TX1, which includes a 10x optical zoom...

10x optical zoom; optical image stabilization; 1,280x720, 30 frames per second HD video capture; very close-focusing SuperMacro mode.

Extremely awkward design; so-so still image quality; sluggish performance; noisy at higher ISOs.

The TX1's unique design is sure to turn heads, but it's also quite awkward to use, and its still image quality isn't up to Canon's usual standards.

Canon TX1 First Impressions Review

Bridging the gap between compact digital cameras and camcorders is the newly announced Canon PowerShot TX1. This 7.1-megapixel digital camera has a vertical design and folding LCD screen that harkens from camcorders. Its video technology goes even a...

Movie and still buttons - Fingerprint resistant LCD - Compact - Effective image stabilization - HD movie mode - Face detection

Not very stable - Weak battery - Weak flash - Hot and heavy - Not enough memory - Small LCD

The Canon PowerShot TX1 has a lot going for it. It's one of the smallest cameras with a 10x optical zoom lens, so it could compete with the likes of the Panasonic TZ3 and the Kodak V610. The TX1 has HD video recording capabilities, found on the...
