Casio Exilim EX-V7

Casio's small Exilim EX-V7 is deceptively capable.

Long zoom for an ultracompact camera. Lots of options. Variety of flash modes. Very good performance. Very good video capabilities.

Some shutter lag. Some purple fringing in test shots. Zoom skimps on the wide-angle end of the range. Expensive.

Casio Exilim EX-V7 Review

Announced back in January at the CES show, the EX-V7 is the latest in a long - and generally successful - range of slim, feature-packed Exilim models from Casio. As well as an impressive set of specifications (CCD shift image stabilization, 7x /...

Slim all-metal body Very very compact for a camera with a 7x zoom lens (world's slimmest) Subtle processing, good color Superb build and finish Easy to use Well designed control and menu system Very fast startup, focus, shutter lag - feels very...

The Casio EX-V7 is one of the those cameras that works better on paper than it does 'in the flesh'. The combination of ultra-compact design, 7x zoom, mechanical stabilization and rich feature set is an alluring one, and one that makes the EX-V7 one of...

Review: Casio Exilim EX-V7

It may look like another sleek, sliver point-and-shoot, but Casio's new 7.2-megapixel camera packs some surprises under its svelte case. Underneath the beautiful chassis lurks...

Tons of manual control options. Sliding lens cover/power switch adds nice sturdy feel. Beefy 7x optical zoom lens. Lightweight and eminently pocketable. Nicely designed with elegant finish

Disappointing image quality. Awkward control layout. Charging batteries or transferring images requires using the included dock, which is clunky and difficult to travel with

Casio Exilim EX-V7 review

At first glance, Casio's Exilim EX-V7 looks like a typical, humdrum compact camera. It borrows the sliding lens cover design made popular by Sony's T-series cameras, has a 7.2 megapixel CCD sensor and a 2.5-inch LCD, and though heavier than most...

7x optical zoom lens; sensor-shift image stabilization

Awkward control system; slow f/3.4-5.3 maximum aperture range; merely average image quality

Casio tries to make a statement with the EX-V7's 7x optical zoom and sensor-shift image stabilization, but awkward controls and ho-hum image quality make this camera merely mediocre.
