Casio Exilim EX-Z750 Point-and-Shoot

Casio's $450 Exilim EX-Z750 will suit almost any photographer hunting for a small, pocketable camera. Occasional photographers will find automatic settings and plenty of scene modes to help them get better shots, while experienced shooters will...

Very quick startup Many manual controls

Zoom control is imprecise

The camera's only connector attaches it to the included docking cradle. The cradle's two buttons let you upload images to your PC or print on a PictBridge-compatible printer; Casio also provides an AV cable for viewing your photos on a TV set. Because...

Casio Exilim EX-Z750

Announced just before PMA in February 2005, the EX-Z750 is the latest addition to the top of Casio's popular 'Exilim' line of ultra-compact point-and-shoot cameras. It joins models such as the Canon SD500 and Sony DSC-P200 in one of the most fiercely...

Good resolution and good results (see below) ; Comprehensive feature set with real photographic control ; Wide selection of scene modes ; Excellent user interface ; Excellent all-metal construction ; Good white balance ; Very compact ; Low luminance...

Images at default settings over-sharp, over-contrasty and over-saturated ; Macro mode doesn't get as close as some competitors ; Some problems with exposure in wide dynamic range scenes ; Visible color noise at ISO 400 ; Mediocre burst mode ; Very...

Given that the majority of ultra-compact 7 megapixel cameras share the same CCD sensor, have similar lenses and processors, and have enough pixels that any small differences in resolution and noise will only be visible when you produce big...

Included Memory: On Board, Media Format: Secure Digital, Type: Ultracompact, Maximum Resolution: 3072 x 2304 pixels...

Large LCD. Nicely designed menus. Lots of easy-to-use scene modes.

Some noise and fringing found in images. Flash blew out some details.

The Casio EX-Z750 is an easy-to-use, well-made ultracompact, with only a few drawbacks in picture quality.

Casio Exilim EX-Z750 First Impressions Review

The 7.2-megapixel Casio Exilim EX-Z750 packs a lot of power in a 0.9-inch thick compact camera body. While it isn't as attractive as some of the other Exilim models, it has a traditional brushed aluminum body that weighs only 4.5 ounces.

Casio Exilim EX-Z750

The Casio Exilim EX-Z750 features a 3x, 7.9-23.7mm lens, equivalent to a 38-114mm lens on a 35mm camera. Maximum aperture ranges from f/2.8 to f/5.1, depending on the zoom position, and remains under automatic control. Focus covers a range from 1.3...

Compact size, Solid build, In-camera image stabilization makes all lenses better for low light shooting, Same sensor as 7D, Kit lens covers 18-70mm 35mm equivalent range, Very good to excellent low-light capability, Excellent battery life, Decent...

Proprietary hot shoe, No PC sync port, No video recording (a fact of life with SLRs), Hand grip may be uncomfortably small for some users, Image noise slightly high at ISO 1600, RAW+JPEG option only saves fine-mode JPEGs. (But that's not a bad...

For composing your shots, the Casio Exilim EX-Z750 features a tiny, real-image optical viewfinder as well as a very generous 2.5-inch, TFT color LCD monitor (which takes up most of the back panel). The LCD monitor reports basic camera settings...

What's in the Box

Very good image quality (with proper adjustments) ; Ultra-compact metal body ; Large 2.5" LCD display (though see issues below) ; Robust performance ; Full manual controls (though see issue below) ; AF-assist lamp; good low light focusing ; Excellent...

Images are oversaturated; a little too sharp as well ; Redeye a problem ; LCD doesn't "gain up" in low light; screen resolution could be higher ; Flash is pretty weak, though Flash Assist helps ; USB requires use of camera dock ; Can't swap memory...

Casio Exilim EX-Z750 Digital Camera Pro Review

Let me start out by saying that I loved using the EX-Z750. The small size, speed, and 7-megapixel CCD add up to a more than competent package. Casio was one of the first camera manufacturers to realize that they needed to improve camera responsiveness....

Truly pocket-sized, Big LCD, Best Shot mode with illustrative images and descriptions, Fast start-up and quick shutter response, Accurate, saturated color, Awesome battery!

Exposure control a bit awkward, LCD hard to see in bright sunlight, Awkward, two-button playback control, Somewhat harsh, contrasty image quality, No ISO info in EXIF data

As I said in my introduction, I really enjoyed using the Casio Exilim EX-Z750. I've even thought about buying one for myself. It has a great list of features, including a lot of manual controls as well as great point-and-shoot functionality. But what...

Slender, 7-megapixel cam's got the goods inside and out

Versatile feature set, 30 Best Shot modes, good image quality, fast start up and minimal shutter lag.

No SD card included, movie mode playback is fussy on Macs, full documentation only on CD-ROM.

High-speed, highcapacity SD card, DivX or QuickTime 7 for AVI/MPEG-4 movies

Casio Exilim EX-Z750

The Casio Exilim EX-Z750 is an easy-to-use, feature-packed, 7.2-megapixel, point-and-shoot camera with a 3x optical zoom. Its photo quality was very good, but a couple of inconveniences prevent this small camera from being a big winner.

Large 2.5-inch LCD screen ; long battery life ; helpful in-camera editing tools

Captures movies in MPEG-4 format not supported by QuickTime ; dock required to charge camera

This $450 camera can accept either Secure Digital or MultiMediaCard memory, but like more and more cameras these days, it ships with neither. It does come equipped with 8MB of internal memory-enough to take one, maybe two, pictures out of the box. The...

Product Specifications

Once you've got the new EXILIM Zoom EX-Z750 in your hands, you won't want to part with it: 7.2 megapixels, 3x optical zoom and a large 2.5-inch TFT colour display as well as an optical viewfinder. The digital camera will thrill you with innovative technology and outstanding power. It makes photography a special experience. The finishing on the compact digital camera with its matt-brushed metal casing is not only high quality and well-designed, but thanks to the EXILIME Engine also extremely powerful. In addition, it also impresses with unbelievable speed: the camera is ready for use in approx. 0.9 seconds and impresses with a shutter-release delay of only approx. 0.007 seconds. When ready, the door is open for diverse photo ideas and movies - the EX-Z750 takes up to 325 pictures with just one charging of the SUPER LIFE battery. It keeps fast sequence photos and snapshots just as ready as manual setting possibilities for creative picture compositions. The EXILIM user can access them simply and quickly via the mode dial. Additionally, the EX key allows fast access to the basic functions of the EX-Z750. If you prefer to rely on pre-recorded scenes, you can choose the BESTSHOT function. The picture scenarios typical for EXILIM were increased by new BESTSHOT programs. With "Art Shot", for example, photos become small works of art that seem to stem from painting. Whether pastel, pop or cross screen filter - the imagination knows no borders. However, the program "ID Shot" is business-oriented and automatically duplicates a photographed portrait several times and arranges it on a photo in the right size for official documents. The "Continuous Zoom Shooting", which is also new, saves having to choose the right zoom factor. With one click of the shutter release it takes two pictures at the same time with different image sections. The autofocus light assist provides even better focusing in a dark environment, and dark motifs are well-illuminated thanks to the integrated flash with red eye-reduction. Moments intended to be taken in motion are recorded with sound by the small lifestyle camera as a movie in MPEG-4 format without time limit. The EXILIM user will become the perfect director once and for all with the new Movie BESTSHOT function, which offers creative scope when recording movies. For example, the Past Movie function: it continuously records where the person filming aims the lens. After pressing the shutter release it also stores the last five seconds before the beginning of the recording. On the other hand, short movies of up to eight seconds long are shot in the Short Movie function. Here too, the EXILIM user can freely choose the start of the recording and decide whether the film should be recorded before, during or after the shutter release has been pressed. If you would like to print out the single picture of a movie, you can do this in the Motion Print function. It releases a single picture as a photo from the movie and joins it together on request with eight other randomly selected pictures into a collage. The USB docking station with high-speed USB 2.0 is used for the transfer of the picture data on the PC and supports PictBridge and USB Direct Print Standard. Movies and photos can also be viewed directly on the television by means of AV-output to the docking station or the optionally available AV cable. Besides the SUPER LIFE battery and docking station, the package also includes USB cable, extensive software on CD-ROM and hand carrier straps. In the current EXILIM look are optionally available a fast battery charger, portable AV cable for connecting the camera directly with the TV and other accessories as well as camera bags and neck straps, a media case for storing memory cards and other accessories.
