Casio QV-3EX

Casio's QV-3EX is currently the smallest and lightest (7.5 ounces) three-megapixel digital camera in the world (as of Jan 2001.) Inside there is LSI (large scale integration) that combines image processing circuitry and DRAM onto a single chip. It

What's in the Box

Well designed controls and menus ; Lots of manual controls (but no shutter priority mode?) ; Very nice playback mode ; Two words: IBM Microdrive ; Great bundle

Too expensive ; No optical zoom ; No shutter priority mode ; Long autofocus lag ; No sound in movie mode ; Software is lacking (to say the least)

The Casio QV-3EX is a full-featured, small, easy-to-use camera, that I would recommend unconditionally if it had just one more feature: an optical zoom lens. At $800, it's overpriced. The 340MB IBM Microdrive sells for around $360 retail, so I would...

Love the size and think that it works OK ..Macro is Excelent and the battery life is superb with a std CF card of 64MB. The picture quality is good in all situations if you know how to set it up, something that took a long time to work out. LCD useless...

The first ones lens gave up coming out and just switched off the next one is fine

I just got this on ebay for $340 and dropped it on a Hard wood floor the first day that I got it. Omg what a mistake, but it amazes me that it didn't do anything to the camera. It works really well, and I am very pleased.

Value for money. Couple of points; difficult to understand whether the picture is taken when there is background sound (high volume music etc). Bleep effects are not loud enough. LCD is not bright enough to see under bright sun. Re-arm period is too...

None - as I said, value for money. I bought this for $380 in CA, 340mb microdrive included

This is my first and only digital camera although I tried the Ricoh 2.2 megapixel camera for a while. The Casio is very light, easy to use, and easy to hold steady. The picture quality is amazing, as good as any 35 mm slr I ever used. I rarely need a...

The autofocus is poor in dim light. Batteries are propietory and hard to find in Canada. I would have liked an optical zoom but I use software cropping to compensate

I bought mine in the Canaries for around £350. Great metal design. Only thing is you can't save raw files- even in "Fine" mode there is visible jpeg compression. Very easy to use, and is one of only a few which fits in your pocket

Only the jpeg noise as mentioned above, and no optical zoom

Product Specifications

The QV-3EX, the digital camera that packs 3.34-megapixel digital imaging into a stylish body that makes this the smallest, lightest weight camera in its class. The QV-3EX also features a new high-speed image processor that has the camera ready for the next shot in less than a second after the previous shot. The QV-3EX's new LSI combines image processing circuitry and DRAM onto a single chip, which together with Casio's original high-density chip mounting technology creates the smallest, lightest weight 3-megapixel camera available today. Other features include a new high-speed image processor that makes it possible to record consecutive images with an interval of less than a second between shots, 12-step digital zoom up to 3.2x normal size, and plenty more, all packed into a stylish aluminum alloy body. Photographic functions include programmed AE and aperture priority AE, in addition to a Night Scene, Landscape, Manual, and other useful modes, all accessible with the turn of a function selector dual. Auto exposure bracketing (AEB) records three images automatically shifting exposure to three different levels, while a histogram screen graphically shows the brightness of recorded images at a glance. This and much more makes the QV-3EX the digital camera that supports digital imaging at all levels, from the point-and-shoot snap shooter all the way to the serious digital image artist.
