Casio QV-R4 Camera Review - PCWorld

The QV-R4 is inexpensive for a 4-megapixel camera--especially one so portable--and we're suckers for stainless-steel mechanical devices. But we'd prefer a more flexible lens and faster operation.

Casio QV-R4

Casio introduces two new versatile and compact digital cameras that come with a 3X optical zoom, a high-resolution primary color CCD and fit comfortably in the palm of your hand. The QV-R4, a 4.0 megapixel digital camera, and the QV-R3, a 3.0 megapixel di

How well does it work? Find out in our review

Very good photo quality ; Small, elegant metal body ; Manual control over shutter speed, aperture, focus, and white balance ; Fast performance ; Cool album, best shot features ; Has an AF illuminator lamp ; Impressive redeye test performance

Images kind of noisy/over-processed ; No sound in movie mode ; 11MB of memory on a 4 Megapixel camera? Come on ; No video out

For those who want an ultra-small camera with a lot of pixels, the Casio QV-R4 is worth looking at. The 4 million pixels it produces will allow you to print very nice 8x10 images, and larger if you desire. The camera has some nice features, such as an...

I have been using my QVR-4 for about 3 years. I really like the control positions and ease of use. I really like the "plus-minus" exposure ajustment. It allows for all kinds of situations and for some creativity without having to go to a manual camera...

Sometimes I put the camera in my pocket and it turns itself on. When I reach in to turn it off the lens cover doesn't always close ; There have been some out of focus issues with all types of pictures, outside and flash ones. I have had some luck using...

I have the camera for about 2 months. I think it is a great camera for I can't believe the quality of pictures I took. It just almost perfect for the clearity of image and it's color. I think it's very easy to use also. I just love this camera.

So far none

I think this camera was a great value for money for me, as I got it for under $500 including a 128MB card (the (3 megapixel!) Ixus V3 (PowerShot S230) I intended to buy first would have cost more.) There are lots of nice features, including 30+ "Best...

No real problems so far, but other than the sturdy metal case, the lids of the card and battery slots are made of plastic and look flimsy, to put it mildly. A colleague once dropped his QV-R4 and it survived, but as expected, the battery lid broke....

I had an Olympus E-100RS with only 1.5 megapixels, but they were extremely sharp pixels. I have a Sony dsc -707 with megapixels, extremely sharp photos. Macro shots with this camera are sharp, but I am not at all impressed with sharpness and details...

Mine 4 2 months, repairers 4 2 months! It made a clicking noise and "lens error" message onscreen when lens extended, si I sent it away for repair. Dick Smith Electronics Australia are VERY slow, the repair (dust in lens gears) took about 10 days and...

Limited low light sensitivity for pics without flash means blurry pics in indoor lighting if the subject is moving, can partly be overcome by increasing shutter speed manually (pics then a bit dark but usable after some tweaking) - limitation of small...

Product Specifications

You will appreciate the quality produced by the QV-R4 as soon as you view your images. This cam is sized right and priced right. It is so easy to use that it's hard to believe it is so feature-rich! The compact configuration of the high-performance QV-R4 camera makes it perfect for recording those special moments whenever and wherever they happen. LSI system provides lightening-fast response of about 0.01 second, which means there is virtually no time loss between the point you press the shutter release and when the image record is beginning. A simple, stylish stainless steel body provides QV-R4 with a high level of durability and a feel of quality. Modes are selected using a flat-profile dial, and all function keys are carefully positioned for easy, intuitive operation. Images can be stored on an SD memory card, and the camera also includes built-in flash memory that allows recording even when a card is not loaded or when the memory card is full. The press of a button generates HTML files that arrange images into a handy album format. An album can be published on a Website or printed. You can select the album layout you want to use, as well as background color and other options. Triple Self-timer records three consecutive shots of you and your group with a single press of the shutter release button. Then you can select the image you want to keep. You can set up an alarm to display a particular image when the alarm time is reached. This means you can display an image of a person or place at a specific time as a handy reminder.
