Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR

Good looks, but not enough hooks...

Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR

The Fujifilm FinePix F200 EXR ($400 as of July 27, 2009) is an excellent pocket camera for relatively advanced photographers, either as a more-portable backup to a digital SLR camera or as a versatile primary point-and-shoot. The basic specs are nice:...

Vibrant colors in most shots ; Superb low-light shots without flash

Sub-par flash exposure quality ; Fisheye effect in wide-angle shots

The F200EXR is an excellent camera with vibrant color reproduction, but we wanted more out of its sensor modes and flash.

Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR (with 8GB SDHC card)

If you follow camera sensor advancements, you've no doubt heard of the Fujifilm Super CCD EXR sensor that made its debut in the 12-megapixel compact FinePix F200EXR. (If you don't, click to read a basic explanation of the technology ). Without getting...

Excellent photo quality; lots of useful features; very good dynamic range and high ISO performance in EXR modes; takes SDHC and xD cards.

Basic Movie mode for its price; limited aperture settings; menu systems take some getting used to.

Don't let its new sensor technology scare you off: the Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR is an excellent compact camera with shooting features for just about every type of user.

The Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR is a camera with a new generation of image sensor that offers special modes for reducing image noise or improving dynamic range. We found the camera produced attractive images, but struggled in burst-mode speed and video...

The Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR is a camera that offers a tantalizing hint at a possible future technology. The new EXR sensor has the potential to be very useful, as many current cameras keep adding megapixels to the detriment of image quality. The...

Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR

DSLRs are the fair-haired children of the camera business, and yet aim-and-forget models still make up 90% of all actual sales. Sure, DSLRs have humungous sensors and take high-def videos, but they're relatively affordable, an important consideration...

12MP EXR CCD ; Dual IS ; 5x wide-angle zoom

Relatively slow ; Noise at ISO 1600 and up ; No HD video ; Limited aperture adjustments

A solid digicam with marked sensor advancements, but hardly heaven

Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR

The $370 (street) 12-megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR point- and-shoot camera reminds me a lot of the $399 Canon PowerShot SD990 IS: Both have a steep price and few exotic features, but yield top-notch image quality. For the same price, you can get...

Fantastic image quality. Fast recycle times. Crisp, noise-free images up through ISO 400

Pricey. Unexceptional design. Heavy barrel distortion at widest angle. Outdated user interface. Proprietary USB and A/V port

The Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR isn't heavy on features, but this pocket camera takes excellent photos.

Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR Review

Fujifilm won a great many fans with its F30 and F31fd models, which combined slightly larger than average sensors containing fewer pixels than their competitors with some clever image processing, to produce some of the best high ISO images we'd ever...

Good all-round performance ; Pleasant, unobtrusive user interface ; EXR modes perform well (particularly the dynamic range mode) ; EXR Auto mode makes it easy to get the best out of the sensor ; High ISO performance up with the better compacts on the...

EXR performance doesn't justify a major price premium over more conventional rivals ; Unpleasant noise reduction smearing, particularly in 12MP mode ; Occasional unexpected artefacts ; No histogram for assessing exposure ; Limited aperture selection...

Followers of Fujifilm's compacts will see the F200 EXR as sitting in the shadow of the much sought-after F30 and F31fd, but for the wider market it's undoubtedly a much improved camera. It may not quite match the F31fd's noise performance at ISO 800...

Fujifilm FinePix F200 First Impressions Digital Camera Review

The FinePix F200EXR from Fujifilm is the first camera to use a new generation of image sensor, which looks to have some nifty tricks up its sleeve. The EXR sensor offers full 12-megapixel resolution, but there's also the option to group pixels...

The Fujifilm F200EXR is going to be a wait-and-see camera for us. We're very excited about the possibilities of the new sensor, but that's not something we could judge with a brief hands-on in a crowded conference center. Until we get it in our hands,...

FinePix F200EXR

($399) is a compact camera with a one-of-a-kind sensor. The SuperCCD EXR sensor found in the F200EXR allows the user to select what's most important in the photo they're taking: high resolution, high sensitivity and low noise, or wide dynamic range....

Very good photo quality (though see issues below) ; Low light performance a full stop better than other compact cameras ; 5X wide-angle zoom lens in a compact, stylish body ; Sensor-shift image stabilization ; 3-inch LCD with good outdoor / low light...

Images are soft at full resolution, with some detail smudging; some SuperCCD artifacting, as well ; Only two apertures to choose from at a time; lens a bit slow ; EXR modes require dropping the resolution, giving up manual controls and menu options ;...

Thanks to its new SuperCCD EXR sensor, Fuji has created arguably the most capable low light compact camera since the FinePix F30 and F31fd. Sure, the camera needs some improvement in some areas, and I'd love to see the sensor in a more "prosumer" body...

Review: Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR digital camera

Fujifilm's FinePix F200 EXR is an good pocket camera for relatively advanced photographers, either as a more-portable backup to a digital SLR camera or as a versatile primary point-and-shoot.

The first Fujifilm camera equipped with the Super CCD EXR sensor (the second wave is coming soon), the FinePix F200 EXR offers some unique sensor-tweaking settings: You can shoot in resolution-priority mode for full detail; a high-ISO/low-light mode...

Product Specifications

The F200EXR offers the most advanced technologies available, including Dynamic Range Bracketing, Dual Image Stabilization, Face Detection 3.0, and ISO settings of up to an unprecedented ISO 12800, allowing you to capture any shot, any place and at any time with the lowest noise signature to date.
