The JVC GC QX5HD A Lot More Than Meets The Eye

Wide Range mode uses two exposures to expand a camera's dynamic range: the first (left) optimized to capture the bright portions of a scene, the second (right) to capture detail in the dark or shadow areas of a scene. The camera then combines the two...

In the prosumer market, digital point-and-shoots have reached a sort of consensual plateau--where certain capabilities are standard and even expected. Just about all of them have an LCD preview screen and an optical viewfinder, instant playback and...

I bought this camera for 250$. Brand new from store. I think it was a great deal.

I bought this camera on sale (and new) for $299. I never realized how good of a deal I got on it until I was checking out prices on the web. One site wanted a $1000 more for the same camera. I love this camera. The picture quality is amazing. This is...

Pros: *Noise reduction mode (multi exporsure composite to reduce all noise) works well for still subjects. *HDTV output. *Film copy mode and adapter works reasonably well, but takes much effort and adjusting. Cons: *Propreitary video format is...

This is my first digital camera. For only $500.00 this was an exceptional deal. I've seen this camera listed for as much as $1200 and had considered it 'out of reach'. When I saw the price in the Base Exchange I couldn't pass it up! I was looking for...

Image quality is great, even in low light where most lack. Very light great for telephoto(scope )or astrophotography. Battery goes fast, but is chargable and I always have 110 portable power so not that big an issue. Would like a better zoom but...

the camera works great after getting the feel for it. Trying to manual focus is a little tricky, and the battery life is way too short. Still does the job for being the first digital camera I own.

I've had the camera for a few weeks now, getting it for $427 US on "clearance". I had been interested in this model primarily for two features: the HDTV output, and the film copy attachment. These features both seem to be pretty much unique to this...

Power Switch unfortunately leads accidental change of modes too easily. Size is just wonderful and makes it easy to use. Battery life is too short. Need a backup battery if you are taking any number of pictures, especially if using flash and LCD.

Product Specifications

GC-QX5HDU is the newest, state-of-the-art, digital still camera from JVC. 3.3-megapixel CCD with RGB primary color filter minimizes aliasing effects to reproduce vivid colors with all their true-to-life brilliance. This provides exceptional image clarity and detail for high quality pictures at resolutions up to 2032 x 1536. The camera features high contrast 2.3x zoom lens and digital teleconversion zoom enclosed in rugged metallic body with easy-access design. GC-QX5HDU offers maximum creativity and convenience with collage modes, video e-mail capability, auto flash and a 200,000-pixel 2" TFT polycrystalline silicon color LCD. With 1080i HDTV compatible output, GC-QX5HDU can output a 1080 scanning line interlaced image - the same signal used by HDTV. Get ready for the "new rules" of television, with a high definition image and output that are ready for the task. Developed specifically for still subject shooting, JVC's exclusive Pro-Still technology lets you take professional quality digital "still life" photos. Pro-Still technology offers several modes that improve picture when photographing stationary subjects. The 6 Mega Pro-Still mode uses advanced pixel shifting to create an even higher resolution image equivalent to over 6 mega pixels. NR Pro-Still can be used to dramatically reduce picture noise by up to 9db. GC-QX5HDU comes with a Film Copy attachment that lets you shoot your old film negatives in 6 Mega Pro-Still mode and make digital stills from them. This convenient feature makes digitizing your films quick and easy. DR Pro-Still allows digital stills that approach the same wide latitude of conventional film by creating separate exposures for highlight and shadow areas. Then these separate exposures are combined. This, in effect, triples the cameras dynamic range. This JVC digital still camera is easy to connect via USB terminal, and both Mac OS and Windows drivers are provided. A special high-speed connection is also offered for the matching JVC GV-SP2 printer. Exclusive high-speed interface printing via connector cable to this digital system printer delivers 310-dpi color prints.
