Leica V-Lux 1 review

Intro Each year, Leica releases a handful of digital cameras with specs almost identical to a handful of models in Panasonic's line. Among this year's batch is the Leica V-Lux 1, which corresponds to Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FZ50 . If you're going to...

Fast, 12x optical, image-stabilized zoom lens; raw capture; sensitivity to as high as ISO 1,600.

Big camera body; auto white balance is bad with tungsten lighting; expensive.

Leica's version of Panasonic's DMC-FZ50 has slightly better JPEG compression, slightly slower performance, and a much higher price tag.

Leica V-Lux 1 Digital Camera Review

Let's cut straight to the chase with the Leica V-Lux 1: the quality of the workmanship and the sophisticated design of the camera are unquestionable. So too are the speed of the lens and its considerable 35-420mm focal range. But, at the end of the...

Big camera body ; Auto white balance is bad with tungsten lighting ; Expensive

Though it's much bigger and more expensive, the Leica V-Lux 1 offers serious competition to our current superzoom favorite, the Canon PowerShot S3 IS. Given the versatility offered by the Canon's small size and light weight, the V-Lux 1 won't take away...

Leica V-Lux 1

Just got one of these recently, used but in near mint condition. Thought I'd give it a try just for fun as an all-purpose carry-around camera. I'm loving it so far - feels great to handle, easy menus, very nice jpegs from camera. It's worth fine-tuning...

Beautiful lens. Manual control rings on lens [zoom and focus] Nice jpegs from camera raw OIS 55mm filter thread Program auto doesn't push higher than iso200

um - can't think of any so far. Like any small-sensor camera it has limitations, but that's all part of the fun. So long as you don't try anything silly [like try to use it at high ISO], you'll get lovely results.

Leica V-Lux 1

A camera that delivers extremely sharp images and is easy to handle. Menus are well planned. Panasonic make this camera as FZ-50. Panasonic version is NOT as good as the Leica V Lux 1. One of the few cameras that has WARM & B&W modes. Camera produces...

1. For product photography, this is the very best one can buy. There is a warm mode and it works at P setting. This warm mode delivers the best pictures for products or for that matter of any other subject. 2. Zoom range is the best I have seen in any...

Plastic is not my favourite material, but we are now in the age of plastic. This camera is all plastic.
