Leica X1

Most photographers would balk at spending $2K for a fixed-lens digital camera, but Leica has a large following, and the Leica X1 ($1,995 list) will find a happy home with many of the company's devotees. Like the Leica M8 ($5,995 list), the X1 features...

Excellent, sharp images. Little noise up to ISO 3200. Fast f/2.8 lens. HDMI port. Pop-up flash. Elegant design

Expensive. Slow autofocus. No interchangeable lenses. Fixed focal length (no optical zoom). No video capture

The Leica X1 offers the best image quality for a camera of its size, especially at higher ISO settings, but it's the least versatile shooter in its price range.

Leica X1: A “Traditionalist” Compact

The Leica X1 ($1,995) is a fixed focal length, non-interchangeable lens compact with a fast f/2.8 lens and 12.9MP CMOS APS-C sensor. Introduced over a year ago in silver and recently in black, it keeps apace with firmware upgrades, the most recent of...

Camera Test: Leica X1

With a look that reminds us of a 1920s-era Leica A (if it were modified for the digital age), Leica's X1 hopes to offer a high-end approach, with a classic feel, to the compact camera. The twist is that this $2,000 (street) model contains a 12.2MP...

Simple controls; rugged build

High quality German made product.

This camera is made in Germany. That says a lot about its quality, and the reason for its high price. But for those who can afford it, it will last a life time. Moreover, this camera is definitely something its proud owner would not hesitate to take it...

Topnotch workmanship

Doesn't have zoom

Questionable quality for the price

Despite the problems described in the "cons" section, to-date the warranty coverage seems to be excellent.

For those familiar with 35mm film cameras, transitioning to this camera will be a breeze. Menu system is very easy to navigate. Two year warranty coverage--which you many need to use the multiple times

Slightly slow focusing time. Rapidfire snapping of photos is also a problem. F/stop and shutter speed can be changed too easily (accidentally)--meaning that the user needs to check these setting before each use of the camera ; If my experience is

Showing its age

Compared to the competition the Leica X1 is surely showing its age. While simplicity is key, simple things like focus speed and lcd resolution are lacking. For the $$$ not a good buy
