Nikon Coolpix 5200

Megapixels: 5.1, Included Memory Amount: 12 MB, Included Memory: On Board, Media Format: Secure Digital, Maximum Re...

Small, solid, and stylish. Flash shots are well exposed. Powerful features (in-camera red-eye fix, last-five-shot buffer, best-shot selector, etc.).

Small LCD. Daylight shots tend to be underexposed. Minor color-accuracy issues. Menus can be confusing.

There's a lot to like about this camera. It's small, handy, and stylish, and it's jammed with great features. It takes reasonably sharp images, but exposure and color-accuracy problems keep the Coolpix 5200 from receiving top honors.

Nikon Coolpix 5200 Digital Camera Review

The Nikon Coolpix 5200 is primarily meant as a point-and-shoot model. Although it has some manual control options, without a Manual mode, the user is limited to tweaking the Auto mode, instead. The camera is small and sleek, and is lightweight enough...

- Small Compact size and lightweight build allows for comfortable carrying and easy transportation -Internal Memory -Clearly labeled, large controls considering overall frame size

-No included Memory Card -Delayed Focus time -Ill-placed microphone and flash make using my left hand to support the camera a complicated endeavor

The Nikon Coolpix 5200 is most likely to appeal to those consumers searching for a point-and-shoot camera with a small compact size and style, few external controls, and simple menus to allow and expedite menu changes. The color menus are attractive...

Nikon Coolpix 5200

If you're new to digital photography you may wish to read the DigitalPhotography Glossary before diving into this article (it may helpyou understand some of the terms used).

Excellent resolution - especially for an ultra-compact ; Clean images with only moderate noise levels ; Good white balance (except under incandescent light) ; Realistic color ; Very compact, excellent build quality ; Pretty fast operation ; Huge range...

Images look soft (though they respond well to unsharp masking) ; Images can be over-contrasty - muddy shadows (again, the detail is there but needs fixing in Photoshop) ; Occasional focus problems at the long end of the zoom ; Finest quality JPEG is...

The Coolpix 5200 is a little gem of a camera that proves Nikon is not merely dabbling in consumer-level cameras, and it's the best proper compact they've produced in years. Design, build and ease of use are excellent, and there is a surprising amount...

Nikon Coolpix 5200

Excellent red-eye prevention; versatile burst mode; simple operation; solid macro capabilities.

Tiny optical viewfinder; slow autofocus in dim light.

The Nikon Coolpix 5200 is an easy-to-use ultracompact for newbies who want to print big, but image-quality-conscious buyers should stay away.

The Coolpix 5200 is a very compact and stylish 5.1-megapixel camera that features a high-quality Nikkor ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element 3x optical zoom lens and Nikon's exclusive new In-Camera Red-Eye Fix. The Coolpix 5200 is durable with an all-m

A 4 Megapixel version, known as the Coolpix 4200, is also available. It has less impressive continuous shooting and movie modes, though

Compact metal body ; AF-assist lamp ; Impressive macro ability ; VGA (30 fps) movie mode ; Many scene modes ; Easy to use ; LCD usable in low light

Images are soft and somewhat noisy; some corner blurriness as well ; Redeye reduction feature didn't seem to help much ; Menu and camera settings inaccessible while camera saves photos to memory ; Aside from white balance, no manual controls ; No real...

While not the best choice, the CP5200 is worth a look if you're after a high resolution point-and-shoot camera. Just be sure to research the competition carefully!

This was my first camera and not it dates back to almost more than 36 months. The best p&s perhaps canon is created. Any where it gives the comfort. Especially in low light situations it performs dam well i have taken pictures when twilight is there...

Poor battery chamber construction. THe socket has come loose only one tag holds the battery. Poor coloring the color fades off also small lcd panel and poor battery performance.

I've had this camera for about 18 months and think it's brilliant. Would like a bigger zoom and manual settings and a larger lcd, but am having a hard time finding something to upgrade to. It is very well built and has a good range of features...

Owners Opinion: Nikon Coolpix 5200 (mikeperl, 12 Dec 05)

Great little camera which gives stunningly high resolution images across the frame when examined critically - something which many of the smaller cameras seem unable to do. Excellent natural colour and almost perfect white balance. Exceptionally good...

Won't bother many people, but lens distortion at wide-angle is higher than I'd hoped for (no better than or maybe slightly worse than some competing cameras) and spoils an otherwise near-perfect technical performance ; Oh, and the AF is less reliable...

Product Specifications

The COOLPIX 5200 is an easy-to-operate compact digital camera that boasts high-level comprehensive quality, 5.1 effective megapixel performance, and a selection of useful functions. Superior image quality begins with a newly developed 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens with a focal range of 7.8 to 23.4mm (equivalent to a 38-114mm lens in 35mm format). Featuring aspherical elements and an ED glass element, it achieves a significant reduction in aberration. It also retracts to contribute greatly to the overall slim dimensions of the body. The COOLPIX 5200 has the additional advantage of 5.1 effective megapixels, which ensures images are recorded with satisfying clarity. The elegant aluminum exterior of the COOLPIX 5200 exudes a sense of sophistication. The camera also features the same stylish grip design as the other cameras in the popular COOLPIX range, has satisfyingly compact dimensions, and a light weight - factors that combine to make the camera feel naturally comfortable in the hand. Furthermore, all controls are conveniently located within easy reach on the back of the camera body. This enables highly intuitive operation in general and provides easy access to the camera's 15 Scene modes. Each of these modes adds simplicity for the shooting of a different kind of subject, while four of them offer a Scene Assistance function to make shooting even easier still. The COOLPIX 5200 also features Advanced Red-eye Reduction, which provides automatic in-camera correction. Convenient and useful in a range of situations, it also activates automatically upon selection of Night portrait mode.
