Nikon Coolpix AW100 Review

When one thinks of rugged cameras, either Olympus or Panasonic are among the brands that one thinks of instantly. These brands have been launching tough, shockproof cameras for years and though a tad on the pricier side, they are extremely efficient...

The Nikon Coolpix AW100 is available in India at a street price of Rs.15,000. The camera has some really amazing features and looks pretty stylish as well, especially for a rugged camera. It is quite slim, too, as far as compact cameras, in general,...

Nikon Coolpix AW100 (Black)

Nikon came late to the rugged compact camera party, but its first entry, the Coolpix AW100, arrived prepared to handle some fairly rough treatment. It's rated to be waterproof down to 33 feet, shockproof to 5 feet, and freezeproof to 14 degrees...

The Nikon Coolpix AW100 has good rugged specifications for its price and solid GPS performance. The camera is also fairly easy to use out of the box.

The AW100's slow lens requires more use of high ISO settings or slow shutter speeds. Its controls feel spongy and occasionally unresponsive due to the waterproofing and the body's somewhat slippery.

The rugged Nikon Coolpix AW100 is a fine choice for shallow water or dry land adventures -- just make sure you have plenty of light.

Nikon Coolpix AW100Digital Camera Review

Nikon's Coolpix AW100 is the company's response to a few excellent toughcams released this year, specifically the Sony TX10, Panasonic TS3, and the Pentax Optio WG-1. Nikon's model is distinguished by an integrated GPS transceiver, paired with detailed...

It’s been a great year for ruggedized cameras and we see Nikon’s AW100 as the capstone. Many of the features and technologies found throughout various companies’ many toughcam offerings have been brought together and–not quite perfected–but certainly...

Nikon Coolpix AW100 Hands On Preview

One of six new Coolpix cameras debuting this September from Nikon of which Steve's was able to get a hands on preview, the AW100 is the first underwater camera Nikon has made in over a decade. And what a fun little camera this is. Make sure the lock is...

Nikon Coolpix AW100

Boasting GPS, shockproof, waterproof, and freezeproof capabilities, and a trend-setting appearance, the Nikon AW100 doesn't quite rise to the challenge of creating crisp images worthy of its 16-megapixel sensor. Pros: Nice design; Good shutter button;...

Nice design; Good shutter button; High resolution; Good shot-to-shot time; Includes GPS maps

Buttons are hard to press; Corners are soft; Flash overwhelms close up; Frustrating controls; Worse than average print quality

Overall, the Nikon AW100 worked well enough, but I really did have a tough time with the buttons. They're just too hard to press. I took a lot of shots with EV set inadvertently to underexpose (a whole outing, in fact, which has never happened before...

Nikon Coolpix AW100

The Nikon Coolpix AW100 represents the company s initial offering in the rugged compact camera market.

Solid build; great LCD screen

No manual setting; no RAW; must master scene modes

The Coolpix AW100 is a good camera, but there’s definitely room for improvement.

Nikon finally got the ruggedized camera right in the AW100, it seems. The AW100 is still a compromise in some respects (battery life), but image quality is good enough for most purposes and, with waterproofing to 33 ft and shockproofing to 5, it can...

Nikon Coolpix AW100 Review – A Boot Camp Survivor (Video)

Sgt. Perlman of the TechnoBuffalo Rugged Device Boot Camp signing in with with a review of the Nikon Coolpix AW100. This little nancy has a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, which gave it an extra bite over Nikon's entry-level CCD chips. The little orange...

Nikon AW100

Nikon's new AW100 isn't perfect, but it's the best toughcam of 2011.

Sharp, impressive lens; Strong durability features; GPS that actually works

Some noisy, artifacted shots, even at low ISO

It’s been a great year for ruggedized cameras and we see Nikon’s AW100 as the capstone. Many of the features and technologies found throughout various companies’ many toughcam offerings have been brought together and–not quite perfected–but certainly...
