Nikon Coolpix L2

The 6-megapixel Nikon Coolpix L2 offers only the bare necessities for picture taking but, for its class, delivers excellent photos that require minimal effort. The Coolpix L2 squarely targets snapshooters, and more experienced users may be frustrated...

Easy to use; excellent image quality for an inexpensive camera; useful macro mode; effective D-Lighting feature; attractive design.

Extremely limited image options; average performance.

The no-frills Nikon Coolpix L2 is slow, but its pictures are quite good.

Nikon Coolpix L2, L3 and L4 First Impressions Review

Some might call the new Nikon Coolpix L2, L3 and L4 "budget" cameras, though Nikon actually refers to them as their "Life" series. They provide sensors of 6, 5.1, and 4 megapixels respectively, and still offer good functionality with Nikon's Exclusive...

- Strong value for the money - Nice designs for low-priced cameras - Decent features for budget models - Double AA batteries are convenient

- Strange that the lowest priced model (L4) has the highest LCD resolution of three cameras - No sound and slow frame rates on L4's video feature is annoying - Much less manual control than competing models - Buttons too small for large fingers

Consumers on a budget would do well to take a look at these new Coolpix L-series cameras from Nikon. With decent sensors, good features and pretty snazzy designs for entry level models, the L2, L3 and L4 appear to be a great value for the money....

Nikon Coolpix L2

Nikon Coolpix L2 Digital Camera - Full Review - The Imaging Resource!

Slimmed down stylish design in attractive gun-metal grey color ; Well-built body with smooth curves ; easy to hold ; Good quality lens provides decent overall sharpness ; Images had good color even under harsh lighting ; Excellent macro performance ;...

Max ISO sensitivity limited to 200 and always set automatically ; Slower than average shutter response ; 3x zoom control is noisy and slow ; Resolution low for 2-inch LCD screen ; High image noise in dim light and when flash is used at distances much...

Features are also pretty impressive in a camera this small and relatively inexpensive. Along with a 6MP CCD image sensor, the Nikon Coolpix L2 has a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2-inch LCD screen and Nikon's helpful Feature System which includes D-Lighting...

Nikon Coolpix L2 Review

Clearly, Nikon has cut too many corners with the Coolpix L2. The lens, which delivers good sharpness, is betrayed by strong barrel distortion at wide-angle and a very narrow aperture (F5.3) at telephoto.

Nicely saturated image colors, Reliable metering, Great macro focusing, Built-in camera guide, Easy to handle, Good LCD visibility

High image noise, No control over ISO, Poor automatic white balance under artificial light, Slow lens at telephoto, Some barrel distortion, Overly slow

Nikon Coolpix L2 Digital Camera Review

If you're in the market for a simple to use, affordable camera, the Nikon Coolpix L2 is an excellent option (as are its siblings, the Coolpix L3 and Coolpix L4).

Great camera for the price

I bought 6 of these for our office to take on site visits. I must say these guys are pretty hard on cameras, some I had to teach to even use a digital. They have been through a lot of wear and tear and the only problem I have had ... Expand full review

"A great camera for first 6 months..."

Bought from Bestbuy in Nov 2006 with 3 years extended warranty. During the first 6 months L2 performs brilliantly giving me excellent pictures both indoor and outdoor. But after that the auto focus started downhill and I have to return the camera for...

Pictures are very good under ideal conditions... outside, lots of natural lighting, no need for the flash, object standing still. Nikon service centre is excellent.

Indoor or with less than ideal conditions, the pictures are poor. The auto focus never really works for indoor pictures and using the flash.

Waste of money

My opinion is that I've wasted a lot of money on this piece of crap, even when you want to capture a monitor screen, there are black slides that appear. When capturing a video, there are additional sounds added. I recommend the HP Photosmart R742...

Simple point and shoot

Captures moving objects as very blurred pictures

Product Specifications

Nikon COOLPIX P2 is a revolutionary compact digital camera with Wi-Fi capability, excellent imaging performance and an array of advanced features. The COOLPIX P2 has built-in Wi-Fi LAN support to allow picture taking without wires and cables. In addition, the camera has USB connectivity, which makes it easy to hook it up to a computer or other peripherals. Wireless printing also delivers the convenience of cable-free direct printing to PictBridge-compatible printers. This camera allows the user to correct images in-camera, thanks to the incorporation of three unique Nikon features. The D-Lighting function has the power to improve images taken with excessive back light or insufficient flash - automatically creating a copy of the selected shot, but with enhanced detail and light applied exactly where necessary. The Portrait (Face AF) Mode has the ability to detect a human face in the frame achieving sharp focus for it when the subject is facing the camera from a typical portrait distance. The COOLPIX P2 is compact, making it comfortable to shoot with and easy to carry virtually anywhere. It also features a newly designed grip for more confident shooting and the advantage of a large, bright and easy-to-view 2.5-inch LCD.
