Nikon Coolpix P510

The 16 megapixel Nikon Coolpix P510 is a compact camera in the superzoom class, that sports a 42X optical zoom, covering a currently unmatched focal range of 24-1000mm (equivalent), compared to 38X (23-810mm) from its predecessor the P500. As well as...

Extreme 42x (24-1000m equivalent) wide angle zoom ; Very capable optical image stabilization system ; Effective automatic CA/fringing correction ; PASM shooting modes ; Good image quality at low ISOs ; Good performance ; Continuous shooting up to 7fps...

Small, pokey electronic viewfinder ; EVF/LCD switch is manual, not automatic ; Slow f/3-f/5.9 lens ; Occasional focus hunting at telephoto settings ; Noise levels increase noticeably at ISO 800 and above ; No RAW option

The P510 is a well-featured little camera built around an incredible 42X zoom lens. The lens is the P510's main selling point and anyone looking for a go-everywhere camera for travel or general-purpose photography will be impressed by its versatility....

Nikon Coolpix P510 Review

The Nikon Coolpix P510 is an ultrazoom if you've ever seen one: The big-barreled, 42x optical zoom lens camera has a bulky-bodied but turns out to feel surprisingly small and lightweight. The camera packs in plenty of features and pairs it all with a...

Nice and easy to hold – lightweight but sizeable, with a good grip ; Zoom lens stays steady for crisp shots ; In-camera UI is incredibly easy to manipulate ; Very versatile: Shoots macro, high-zoom, portrait, and landscape well – provided the lighting...

Video capabilities are limited ; Low light without flash isn’t impressive ; Some features just don’t pull their weight: GPS and built-in effects

The Nikon Coolpix P510 balances many tradeoffs: Lots of hardware features, but sub-par video. Easy-to-use controls, but poor low-light performance.

Nikon Coolpix P510Digital Camera Review

Nikon sure puts the “zoom” in superzoom. Nobody had even caught up to the 36x lens in last year's Coolpix P500, but the new P510 pushes the bar out even further: out to 42x, with a staggering and symbolic 1000mm telephoto focal range. The sensor also...

Superzooms are popular for plenty of good reasons, but the main attraction is always the huge zoom range. The Nikon Coolpix P510 certainly has that part covered. Its massive 42x, 24-1000mm equivalent lens has the longest reach of any camera out there...

Nikon Coolpix P510 (Red)

For those after the absolute longest lens on a compact camera, meet the Nikon Coolpix P510. At roughly the same size as Nikon's last full-size megazoom, the 36x 22.5-810mm P500 , the P510 packs an "oh wow"-inducing 42x 24-1,000mm lens.

The Nikon Coolpix P510 is a fun camera to shoot with, overflowing with photo and movie features, and backed by very fast shooting performance and excellent low-ISO photo quality.

The P510 has trouble focusing at the telephoto end and its low-light/high-ISO photo quality has room for improvement. Also, the camera feels cheaply constructed.

The Nikon Coolpix P510 is easy to recommend for its features, photos, and performance, but the usefulness of a 42x zoom lens is debatable.

Once again, Nikon makes a great ultrazoom camera that is fast, has a massive zoom range, and turns out impressive image quality. Pros: 24-1,000mm equivalent zoom range; Built-in GPS; Articulated LCD; Very good print quality; Many movie options.

Nikon Coolpix P510 Review: Bigger Gets Better

Nikon recently introduced two updated digital cameras that replace (respectively) the Coolpix P300 and the Coolpix P500. This review will focus on the big brother in this sibling duo, the Nikon Coolpix P510, though I do hope that I get a chance to...

Big 42x optical zoom ; 1080p HD movie ; EVF and articulated, hi-res 3.0-inch monitor

Expensive ; Long video start delay ; Somewhat bulky

Nikon recently introduced two new Coolpix cameras and although they show no resemblance whatsoever to each other, they are remarkably similar. Both digicams share identical GPS systems, identical EXPEED C2 image processing engines, indentical 16...

Nikon COOLPIX P510

Very competitive image quality from ISO 100 to ISO 1600 ; Longest zoom range on the market ; Customizable to suit the photographer's needs

Burst shooting while tracking unusable due to screen blackout ; Some slow operation problems, including zoom speed and Playback

Nikon Coolpix P510

The Nikon Coolpix P510 is the successor to the company's popular 36x P500. The P510 ups the zoom factor to 42x, although it does so by sacrificing some coverage on the wide-angle side of things. The camera adds a built-in GPS and ups the resolution to...

Long 42x zoom lens. Sharp images. Snappy performance. 1080p video capture. Integrated GPS ; Cons: High-speed burst limited to 5 shots. No hot shoe or mic input. Editor Rating: 4.00 ; By Jim Fisher

High-speed burst limited to 5 shots. No hot shoe or mic input. Editor Rating: 4.00 ; By Jim Fisher

Bigger than a compact, but smaller than a D-SLR, the 42x Nikon Coolpix P510 packs a high-quality lens that delivers sharp images. Integrated GPS, 1080p video capture, and plenty of other features help it nab our Editors' Choice for the best full-size...

Product Specifications

The P510 is a compact, high-power zoom camera with an even greater zoom ratio than its predecessor, the COOLPIX P500, which represented a landmark in the history of the COOLPIX series with the highest zoom ratio ever. This new model is equipped with an amazing 42x optical zoom lens that covers angles of view for a broad range of focal lengths, beginning at the wide-angle 24 mm to the telephoto 1000 mm. The Q510 also offers the same lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) function for camera shake compensation equivalent to a four-step increase in shutter speed as the P310, and is also equipped with a new GPS function.
