Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED

If you're a fan of an ultra-wide perspective, the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED lens delivers, but you'll need to narrow its aperture to improve edge sharpness.

Ultra-wide field of view. 2.4x zoom ratio. Excellent center sharpness.

Pricey. Image quality suffers at the edges of the frame. Noticeable distortion at 10mm.

Nikon Coolpix S10 Concise Review

Announced in August, the Coolpix S10 is the latest incarnation of Nikon's 'twisting body' camera design that can be traced all the way back to the original Coolpix 900 in 1998, though - like the S4 before it - this one manages to squeeze in a big 10x...

Unique twisting body design brings real creative versatility Very compact for a 10x zoom Decent resolution and fairly good detail capture at lower ISO settings Relatively 'natural' looking output - not over contrasty or over saturated Simple point and...

Slow focus (hunting) at longer focal lengths, in macro mode and in low light Some focus errors at long end of zoom and in macro mode Large screen and lack of grip makes for rather poor handling Too easy to accidentally knock the joystick and bring up...

The Coolpix S10 follows in the footsteps of some of the most highly-rated compact cameras in digital photography's short history. I still remember reviewing the original Coolpix 900, a camera that quite literally set the standard by which all digital...

Nikon Coolpix S10 review

Nikon has been making swivel-body cameras dating back to its successful 900-series of Coolpix cameras in the late 1990s. Lately, in addition to the main benefit of allowing extreme low- and high-angle shooting, the company has taken advantage of the...

Solid, fast 10X optical zoom lens; flexible, swivel-body design; sensor-shift image stabilization.

No manual exposure controls; no flash compensation; noisy images at ISO 400 and above.

Nikon's S10 has some decent features, including a really nice lens, but it doesn't live up to its potential and can't compete with similarly priced superzooms.

Nikon Coolpix S10 Review

The Nikon Coolpix S10 is a return to the past in terms of design, with the retro twisting body being first seen on Coolpix models like the 900 and 950. Nikon have brought that design bang up...

It looks like a blast from the past, and sure enough the Nikon Coolpix S10 struggles to match the performance of similarly priced compacts today. It's not awful but it's far from great, and,...

Nikon Coolpix S10 Digital Camera - Hands-On Preview

Other features of the Coolpix S10 include 16 beginner-friendly Scene modes, plus a One-Touch Portrait button that combines Apical Ltd.'s "D-Lighting" exposure correction technology, Identix's face-priority AF, and an in-camera red-eye fix function, to...

Swivel design provides a significant compositional advantage ; 10x Nikkor zoom in a compact package ; Vibration reduction technology ; Face detection autofocus in Portrait mode ; In-Camera Red-Eye Fix ; D-Lighting to lighten underexposed subjects ;...

Severe chromatic aberration in the corners, Surprisingly bad optics. Only a few small areas in the frame are in focus at any time, LCD very hard to read outdoors, Very small, oddly shaped control buttons, Very stiff Shutter button, An awkward menu...

Nikon Coolpix S10

The S10 addresses many of the complaints I had with the S4, adding image stabilization, a higher resolution 2.5" LCD, and an improved movie mode. It also uses a proprietary lithium-ion battery instead of AAs. Other features include a 6 Megapixel CCD,...

Very good photo quality ; Unique swivel-lens design ; Optical image stabilization ; Large, sharp 2.5" LCD; good low light and outdoor visibility ; Powerful flash ; Tons of scene modes ; In-camera help system ; Handy D-Lighting and Best Shot Selector...

No manual controls ; Audio sync problem in movie mode ; Slow focusing at telephoto end; low light focusing was pretty lousy ; Image stabilization not available in movie mode (electronic only) ; Right thumb tends to rest on LCD, blocking view and...

If you want a fairly compact ultra zoom camera that can take some creative shots, then the Coolpix S10 is probably worth a look. If you want manual controls and lens accessories then it's probably not the best choice. While I'm not jumping up and down...

Nikon Coolpix S10 Review

Here is another compact ultra-zoom designed to appeal consumers by packing a 10X stabilized optical zoom lens into a compact body. While the Nikon Coolpix S10 manages to do so, it does it with very poor ergonomics which make using it rather frustrating.

Folds into compact size for 10X zoom, Good color accuracy, Excellent macro capability, Good build quality, Good flash range, Good LCD visibility

High image noise starting at ISO 400, Some corner softness, Optical distortion, Occasional over-exposure, Above average chromatic aberrations, Slow focusing at telephoto

Nikon Coolpix S10 Digital Camera Review

Nikon's first consumer digicam was the swiveling lens Coolpix 900.  This innovative camera featured a split body design that permitted the CP 900's zoom lens to swivel through a 270 degree arc, independent of the LCD screen, giving shooters a new level...
